I've already began work on one of the new teams. It will be a long time before they are playable however I've decided to include my work on the images in my updates. So if you feel like seeing whats done so far for the new faction (and ruin the surprise) then you can find the images in your userdata directory (either in your wesnoth folder or in my games) then data/campaigns/war_of_chaos_era/images/NEW

enjoy

I have a request, could everyone list their teams first from favourite to least favourite, then from what they think is the strongest to weakest. Its to help me A. make teams more interesting, B> balance them out.
Ill go first and show you and example:

Favourite - least favourite

Afflicted
Genetic Revolutionaries
Leviathens
Elves
Divine Order
Natures Forces

Strongest - Weakest

Genetic Revolutionaries
Afflicted
Elves
Leviathens
Divine Order
Natures Forces

Favourite - least favourite

Elves (Small recruiting pool but has immense leveling-up potential)
Afflicted (Wide selection of diverse units)
Divine Order (I just like the whole lore of divine soldiers)
Genetic Revolutionaries (I primarily like the "Mutation" aspect of this faction and how they level up into advanced mutations)
Leviathens
Natures Forces

I actually enjoy playing Nature's Forces and Leviathans but the other four are just more enjoyable.

Strongest - Weakest

Afflicted (Just a huge amount of units to select from in recruiting, which gives you an advantage in adapting)

Genetic Revolutionaries
Natures Forces
Elves
Divine Order

Leviathans (Low terrain defenses for those power-packing units)

I'm not really sure how to sort the Elves, Genetic Revolutionaries, Divine Order, and Nature's Forces. I tried my best in judging them from strongest to weakest nonetheless.

Fav's

Afflicted
Divine Order
Genetic Revolutionaries
Elves
Natures Forces
Leviathens

I gotta say that i really like using them all. I play this era random while i rarely do that with any other era in Wesnoth.

Strength

Afflicted
Divine Order
Genetic Revolutionaries
Elves
Natures Forces
Leviathens

Some factions suite my playing styles better then others.

the leviathens and divines got some boosts in 4.5, 4.6 will weaken the afflicted and genetic revolutionaries.

the elves seem fine right now, and the naturals Im still not sure. Thank you everyone for contributing, and by all means more people keep posting, I still need more feedback.

Im surprised that you boosted the Divines. Being able to spam so many level one units with free upkeep is a powerful strat on low or high resource maps. Having one of the only healer units in the game is a boon as well. I know their units are the most expensive right off the bat but i feel its quickly offset by the lack of upkeep. I seem to be able to do very well with them.

two of their four units have loyalty, and I added healing or putrefaction to most teams throughout the game a while ago. The divines do very well against computers, that is for sure, however their lack of abilities/diversity and their high experiance requirements proove to be quite a disadvantage versing non-computer opponents. "boosted" can be one of two things, a pure stat (hp, strength, defense, evade) boost, or a skill (abilities, weapon specials) boost. I gave them the later. This tends to not make them "stronger" per ce, but allows for a more flexible playing style.

I see what your saying but most of the other factions healing abilities are either terrain specific or time of day specific while with the divines you have a unit that heals and is also no slouch on the battle field. Also you can spam swordsmen right out the box as well as the mounted unit, the loyalty really helps you with the econ and it seems to add up quickly. As a matter of fact i seem to do best with them against human players(play with my cousin and girlfriends brother). Not saying that there the end all be all in your era, i have them as the second strongest, but i do think that they are a tough faction to go against when played correctly. I dont think i have played enough people and varying play styles to be able to give a super confident opinion.

ok, I will have a look at the divines to. I have massively changed the afflicted playing style to be more like the elves, they are actually too weak at the moment, but Im getting close.

I ran various computer simulations and the rankings came out like this:

elves
divines, geneticists (equal)
afflicted
leviathens (not far off afflicted)
naturals

next step is to boost the leviathens a tiny bit, then boost the naturals, and possible weaken the elves a tiny bit

I believe version 0.4.8 is very close to completely balancing out all the factions.

Oh, one of the new factions is now complete, in fact I was just playing them to make sure everything worked. Yes, then I deleted one line of text that allows you to play them before I uploaded it. I want to make sure it is balanced and has no bugs and make the images smoother before I officially release it, and I want to release the other team (which I have already begun work on) at the same time.

Anyway if anyone wants to try them out:

go into the war of chaos folder

then go into the eras folder

open the file WOC with any word processing program (preferabley word or notepad)

and underneath the line
{MP_SIDE WOC theleviathans}
type
{MP_SIDE WOC cavedwellers}

save and close (being careful not to change the file's format)

and they should be playable.

Haha, I don't know why, but the unit graphics of the new faction remind me of H.P. Lovecraft's horror monsters.
