Whoa, I didn't said you intended to be racist. I was angry over the fact you have just suggested that it is "ape" is not important.
You haven't said that you haven't thought of "ape" being racial slur. You've just gone "nah, it's small so it is nothing".
Don't take it personally - it is just how hate language lives on.
It is not intent, it is content.
Also: Person who does single racist thing is not necessarily racist, just as person who does stupid thing is not necessarily stupid.
So no, I don't accuse you of being racist. I'm not that dumb.

@Shinobody: If I may just ask quick as some clarification (if you so allow it shadowmaster. If not, feel free to delete this post), how does it being an ape (or any animal, person, etc.) have anything to do with anything racial or pertaining to anything of the sort? What's the big issue I am not seeing? Is putting a simple haircut on an ape (or animal) racist? I'm so confused...
On topic with the thread at hand:
Nice work Artisticdude! You never cease to impress me! Keep up the good work! I hope to see your portraits, sprites, maps, etc. in the future!

No really, what?
Shinobody, read the Posting Guidelines again, specifically, points 1h and 5, and leave this thread in peace. If we deem content to be offensive, we’ll deal with it. Otherwise, there’s no need to make so much noise in a working topic that’s not even yours.

So anyway, getting back on topic here. If anyone has any concerns about racism or other touchy subjects in my artwork in the future, I'd appreciate it if you'd PM me rather than posting in this thread. Thanks.

Re: artisticdude's Art, Sketches and WIP's: Pixel Portraits?
I was recently asked to accept a pixel art commission which involved creating 16-bit sprites and animations (never thought that would ever happen
).

In zombie's baseframe, viewer is pretty much unable to see where the skin ends, and where pants begin. (Cloth has very similar color to flesh).
On all zombie frames, pants are rather flat.

Congratulations
Cute 'uns, nice work with the scale. Hmm looks like it might be diapers rather than pants though. which would fit. Is it disturbing I don't find dead babies disturbing any more? (curse you doom3)

Sometimes we must be hurt in order to grow, fail in order to know, lose in order to gain, and sometimes we must have to be broken so we can be whole again...

I've tried changing up the colors of the pants/loincloth/diaper, and I think it stands out better now.Shinobody wrote:In zombie's baseframe, viewer is pretty much unable to see where the skin ends, and where pants begin. (Cloth has very similar color to flesh).

EDIT: Taking diapers to a whole new level!

NIce portrait... I've been thinking of making some of those myself. Is it purely pixelated?

D0oode, can I use that thing for a profile pic?
Also, I need some advice. I've noticed that beside the pixel portrait of a woman's head, you have a little palette of different shades of colors. How do you get those colors? I've been blindly looking for colors....

Re: artisticdude's Art, Sketches and WIP's: Pixel Portraits?
@dipseydoodle: Yes, entirely and purely (and at times painfully) pixel art.
@uncleshelby: Lol. Sure, but the canvas size might be a bit too big, so you might have to crop it a bit. As for the colors, choosing those is an entire science (and a non-exact science, at that) in itself. What colors work with each other, what material/texture/shape you're trying to convey, what lightsource(s) there are, what mood you're trying to create in the piece... I could go on and on. Generally speaking, I first find a midtone (the color in between the darkest and lightest shades) and work from there. Jetrel had an excellent post somewhere about choosing palettes for pixel art, let me see if I can dig it up... ah, here we go.
