Anyone remember Rotation War, if so could they update it?

Post by Unaltor »

Rotation war was an old addon that I don't think ever made it past 1.4. It was a map where you would start on a little island surrounded by void, there would be other islands too. You would recruit, and have houses. Then a few turns in the islands would split in two, one half connecting to the island above it, one half to the island below it and so on.

Not sure if that explains it at all. But it was a great addon that introduced a new and interesting way to play a Wesnoth map. I don't know what happened to the creator, if he stopped playing Wesnoth or if he just stopped production on the mod... But I was wondering if someone who actually understands code could update it to work with the current version.

The files can be found here: http://www.wesnoth.org/addons/1.4/

Unfortunately after about 20 minutes of digging that is about all I could find on it.

Not sure if everything will work as intended, as I never played it before, but this one loads.

I did try this out, and it does load. Unfortunately, it does not quite work properly.

In the original version, the units in the rotating part of the map would rotate with the map. In this version, however, they do not. In gameplay terms, this means that you can take your opponent's villages, but can never actually fight his soldiers.

I'm not sure how to fix the problem, but that's what I noticed.

Thank you for trying Dugi. However Temuchin Khan is correct in that the units would also rotate. But, you did more than I ever could.

The problem is that I have never played it, so I don't have many ideas what was it supposed to do - all I did is that I made it able to load.

Another problem is that it is using a lot of complicated variable operations, that are hard to understand without help or excessive amounts of time.

I think that trying to contact the author might save a lot of work, he should know what is which part supposed to do. If you can send a PM to him, he will get an e-mail notification about it (very probably).

It is a pity it didn't work.

You guys could try to copy/edit the Lua code for the final scenario in The Devil's Flute. The mechanics used in that scenario is very similar to the one being discussed here...

Tried this map and it was fun. Still never figured out the rotation pattern but I did pretty well using elves to control the 3-village corners that had a forest chokepoint, blocking off the sections I didn't want stolen, and then attacking with regen to end a game.
