Several of our mainline campaigns are in the works for upgrades at the moment, which includes adding characters and enhancing existing scenarios. We are looking for more artwork to supplement these upgrades, including the following:
We are happy to announce that Wesnoth is now able to accept donations on Liberapay . While Wesnoth does rely on the work of dedicated volunteers, no project can function completely cost-free. Revenue from the Apple App Store and from donations goes towards maintaining our servers,...
There have been numerous important forum posts and wiki articles written by users and developers. We reference these pages a lot, and decided to put them together in a convenient list.
Write clearly, be nice to others, and be very careful when posting anything related to politics or religion. When asking for help, remember that everyone here is a volunteer. Prefer editing your previous post over double posting. No animated avatars or graphical signatures. Don’t plagiarize other’s...
Hey, I just started playing Wesnoth again to play the newest campaign, which I heard was available. I'm really stuck on the fifth scenario though, Blackwater, in which you've got to fight lots of Loyalists.
I read the Walkthrough from our support section, and that mentions recruiting lots of...
This is a Strategy guide for the Drakes, since I'm kind of tired of the Drakes are tooooo strong and the Drakes are sooooo weeaaaakk topics. I'm not a pro in any way, so don't take this as the ultimate guide to being awesome at Drakes. This might also include strategies for other factions if I...
During the campaign, when it says to 'escape to the northwest', what does that mean exactly?
I sent my guys as far north and west as they'll go but nothing happens. I just get surrounded by elves and annihilated.
Is there a specific point I have to bring everybody?
Thanks.
I have been stuck on IC from the Northern Rebirth campaign for a while, on hard difficulty.
I have tried many different strategies so far. The first time, I tried making lots of footpads and stealing the brown troll keep, and then using all of his easy villages and strong position to batter the...
It's finally finished! Replays are attached at the end of the scenario posts.
EDIT 7/27/2016: I finally fixed the images (changed to imgur instead of postimg.org) and put them inline so the whole thing should be much less annoying to read now. Let me know if you notice any missing/incorrect...
Hello everyone, I am having a bit of trouble with The War Against The Black Army , the campaign that comes with the 18th century MP Era. In the first scenario, I level my skirmisher (to sharpshooter), both my infantry (to veteran infantry) and my conscripts (to infantry and then a bit), and the...
Hey, I was thinking of doing another screenshot playthrough since people seem to like them and use them as a reference. I thought it would be nice to do an addon campaign since there’s generally very little discussion about them.
Campaign: Invasion from the Unknown (IftU) by shadowm is the...
Just jumping on here to vent. New player to this game but long time strategy game player. Though I was half decent gamer but this scenario has kicked my arse 10 times in a row on medium difficulty. Really frustrating.... ARG!
I just finished Legend of the Invincibles and A Beautiful Child, so thought I would try To Lands Unknown next. First off this campaign has beautiful graphics and a great story. But I am having problems with my stratagy, not sure what I am doing wrong. Having to reload many times because I lose. Now...
We conquered all the enemy units and have not solved how to kill the virgins. Nothing has changed on the screen, including the virgin alters, for 15 turns. Any tips?
I really like Wesnoth on hard! But now I have real trouble to win The Siege of Elensefar. I attached the replay. Can you see any obvious blunders here, something obviously wrong? I feel as though I was missing a turn or two.
As you can see from the replay, the main idea is: my striking force is...
I'm playing the Genesis and now I am in the Crypt. Is there anyone who can help me solving the puzzles? I solved the first one, but the second…… and are there any more??
I am playing against the Experimental AI on the Hamlets with me as Drakes and the AI as Northerners. I gave the AI a +9 gold handicap, but I can't beat them consistently. I have two winning and losing games uploaded so you can evaluate where I am sloppy.
I'm working on my own combat calculator in basic C++, I have something to assist in determining the averages of damage you get which will take into account many different things. Whilst I'm doing it, and while I am still relatively new to Wesnoth, I observe something about defence that trumps...
As of late I've been playing a lot with various seldom-used units and there are a few oddities I wish to point out, mostly at random.
-The basic, rider-less wolves are odd when comparing to the goblin-ridden variant...in that they're basically worse, in every way. The level 1 is pretty much the...
Need help. I once were able to finish this, not so now. (Hard difficulty, minimum = 250 gold, decent-ish recalls.) The ally is pretty useless and recruits only Gargoyles. Anyone?
Hello all. I've came back to playing some Wesnoth campaigns after a long hiatus, and since I really liked Dead Water, I thought I'd try it on Normal. I'm pretty terrible at the game, so anything apart from the easiest difficulty is asking a lot from me.
I have been trying to finish Northern Rebirth on nightmare, it isn't that hard until the orc fortress Eastern Flank scenario, maybe with exception of Infested Caves and Settling Disputes which took me some effort to figure out how to finish.
But that orc fortress... I just have no idea how to...
I'm having trouble using the horseman effectively in campaigns. He feels more like a win more unit than an actually effective combat unit. He costs 23 gold, about 1.5x a typical infantry unit. He has no ranged attack, and his only attack is the risky double damage attack. This means he effectively...
Hey everyone, a friend and I regularly play 1v1; he prefers Loyalists and I prefer Rebels. Until recently, he won every game, mainly because his spearmen could go toe-to-toe with my archers, and my main answer, the wose, just got nuked by mages.
Now however, I've been supplementing my army with a...
Here is my saved replay for the Northern Rebirth - Old Friend mission on Nightmare difficulty; I did save each of the turns and replay some of the turns multiple times in order to test different tactics. I also replayed the map two times prior to this saved replay.
I suppose it is kind of inappropriate for someone who's an academic to consider avoiding intelligent units, but hey - all is fair in war and, um, mainline campaign war.
So, I usually dislike getting units with the 'intelligent' trait. My feeling is that I'd like them better at each level rather...
Another article in my loose series on theoretical concepts in playing Wesnoth.
Delay and delaying actions, as used here, means using a smaller or inferior force to hinder or force an enemy force to slow down, preferably while still preserving the combat power of your own units. It is an...
Introduction
Anyone who at least sometimes plays on wesnoth server knows what isar is - a fast and popular 2vs2 map, in this guide I will explain what to do and what not to do on isar to play almost perfectly, if not perfectly. Since isar is a specific and simple map learning to play on it...
In this thread: I found that apparently there's a location guide to items in the campaign invasion from the unknown and after the storm, but I can't figure out how to access it. I assumed it would be in package contents (I'm on a mac) but I can't find it.
Wesnoth has a huge amount of units, but most of them fill a limited number of roles. The coupling between roles and units is rather loose, in that a single unit can often fill several different roles, and often at different times during a scenario as well; this is especially...
This is an attempt to bring in some pieces of a theoretical framework for discussing how to play and get better at Wesnoth, based on military theory. It's not so much a set of tactical or strategical advice, but an attempt to place such advice in context. It divides the decisions one makes while...
