hi all, Back from the dead. There is a contributor to deviantArt named wayfarerpg (not sure who that is here) who said that the portrait had made it to mainline, which is good to hear. I think now that I know that official "yes" and "no" simply take a long time around here, I'll ...

And in India, Anya is a boy's name! (or at least I knew one named that)

Someone ought to create a standardisation body for names... or at least submit an RFC! :D

Thanks Shadow & turin, good to hear! I've been looking very much forward to getting back to painting. I'll post up the new image tomorrow (or at the lastest Friday morning) in this thread.

All right, I'm in a new place with a new job, still looking for a new house but things have settled enough I can start working again on this. However, two questions: 1) I see there's some new blood *waves to rooster (great style)* --- are my services still needed? 2) I see that there's been no furth...

Lest anyone think that I've died...

I am moving about 2500 kms away from my current home and will be on the road for most of this week. However, next Tuesday I'll be able to get back to the next portrait (have the linework done, just didn't have time to colour it).

Happy painting all!

Good points recently. The ragged stubble in contrast with something else could add a lot.

Is it all right if I move on to another portrait while the details work themselves out? I'll do as many edits as necessary.

I personally don't like this stubble at all -- and I don't like it on the Lutes' portraits either. However, I will bow to the enlightened oligarchy's wishes in any event.

All right, stubble changed, lining on shield fixed, and collar fixed. I tried a more reddish stubble but it just wasn't showing so I went with a bit darker. Again, comments welcome.
Actually, this is more like an enlightened oligarchy.
Plato would be thrilled!

Oh, the collar! Yes, well spotted and a very good point. I'll get that fixed, thank you!

The shade around his mouth is a beard? No, as Sgt. Groovy suggested, it's 5-o-clock shadow... stubble of a day's beard growth. I'd very much prefer not putting a full beard on him, but of course this is a democracy, so whatever the majority would like. The scarf should go around his neck, now it lo...

Scritchies added... with those, the thinned version looks much better to me. Other comments?

OK, out of time for today but I'll be back at it tomorrow. Here are two revised versions. The changes are subtle between the two, but I'd appreciate feedback on the thinner versus regular versions. If the thin-camp wish, I can push him to even thinner by moving the breastplate towards him a bit and ...

Is it all right to attach files on a regular basis here? Linking to a PSD on my file server has me a bit bandwidth-worried for future.

Thanks all for the comments. It's rare that I teach myself anything worthwhile, so yes Zhukov I'm definitely excited to be here. The first thing I noticed browsing the forums is that there are quite a number of folks who know what they're talking about. Troy: I see what you mean about the chubby/pud...

I've still to shade his hair a bit and deal with the back of the neck with some leather/cloth, but how's this for a cavalry portrait? I looked at the unit images and keyed on the red shield and slightly conical helm. Comments and suggestions appreciated. I like slightly darker and more saturated ski...
