What? IIRC, a legionnaire was someone who was in a legion, i.e. a common soldier. A centurion was someone who commanded a group of 100 legionnaires. There were several centuries in a legion, yes, but that doesn't mean there were several centurions under a legionnaire... Yeah, that was my take on it...

The Hobbit, to me, was always more of a kid's book anyway. It was basically an elaborate fairy tale. Anyway, since Tolkien's inconsistencies are a definite factor, I suppose it's just opinion on which way you go. After reading Lord of the Rings, it's kind of a nice thought to picture Tolkien writing...

The Trolls that took part in the Battle of Pelennor Fields in RotK were almost a completely difference race from the cave and mountain trolls in the Hobbit and FotR, albeit of Troll stock. They were bred a lot like the Uruk-hai, except that it was Sauron, not Saruman, who bred these Trolls (which ar...
