Thanks for the input!
Ok, a little more work done on this guy. Tweaked the horn and the center line of the cuirass.

I also got started on some of the armor's detailing. This guy happens to be a level two unit, from a line that can get up to level four. Zero's awesome sprites have gold incorporated into the armor starting from the level three unit, so I'm going to not use any golden gilding on this guy.

Awesome work EVILEST! You can do some gold if you want, it's not like a sprite has to dictate portraits. If anything it should be the other way around. Perhaps golden horns?

Stand back everyone; It sounds like Zero's volunteering to be awesome again- but only to make room for Evilist to be awesome... like a Gallagher show; this much awesome needs space. (Don't worry, even behind the plastic you'll still get some on you.)

Perhaps some embellishment on the cloak would help. At the moment it seems a little bland in comparison to his armor.
It's spelled "definitely", not "definately". "Defiantly" is a different word entirely.

At this point you could do some gold trimmed weapons, maybe. The weapons in my sprites are all of some undetermined golden-ish alloy metal, and you could integrate that into your equipment.

Still looking pretty awesome, but to me it also still doesn't look like a level up from the Invader. It looks like an Invader with weird horns and an extra weapon, since they both have very similar engravings on their armour and there's not much difference there.

By the way - in case you're interested for the higher level ones, I always imagined the levels 3-4 as having skull pauldrons. :D

Well, to my thinking this is kinda how it should be... I mean in real life if you were to master some new weapon you wouldn't suddenly grow 5 inches and change your armor completely. Only real change in the armor/outfit would be decorations or badges of some-kind most likely.

Also if you look at the sprites, there isn't a significant change to gregalia. My opinion is that the invader looks too much like a level two.

Some work on both the Invader and Dark Knight. I've tried to make the level difference more apparent, by reducing the bulk on the Invader's armor and by adding some gilding to the Dark Knight (thanks for the go-ahead, Zero!).
Also changed the color of the weapons and horns. It would probably aid level clarity if I left the Invader's horns the way they were, but I'm thinking that the bronzed horns help with a little more color variation.

I'd say the level difference is definitely more obvious now. I love the sun engravings on the Dark Knight's armour! (Somehow I never noticed them before.) However, the Invader's horns seem to somehow stand out from the armour a lot. No problem with the Dark Knight - just the Invader. :|

@ JackBarber: As far as I'm aware, all other Wesnoth portraits that are not for campaign heroes have their armour changing as they level up. It's just this weird thing. You do have a point, though.

This is the sort of entirely useless comment we really don't need.

Please avoid doing so in future, or more formal action will be taken.

EVILEST, All your Portraits are indeed AWESOME!!

But I'm not right with only a thing, that smaller axe can do 17-2?? that doesn't like realist with the unit's stat :hmm:

See previous comments. Stats like that DO NOT necessarily impact portraits in any appreciable way.

the bigger the weapon, the more damage. The more skilled wielder, the more damage.

Hey all, sorry for long absence. Schedule's finally cleared, and I've gotten back to work!

I know that the Dark Knight and the Invader are getting closer to being done, but to get settled back into painting these guys I've gone and started on the Blood Knight.
Once again, it's very much a WIP.
