Was this intentional?

Post by Lord-Knightmare »

I'm using Wesnoth 1.9.7 and Mac OS 10.5.8
I'm playing the scenario Northern Battle of Legend of Wesmere and I found a lot of bugs.
Its all starts with this Costly Revenge scenario
At start the message says, "I cannot recruit or recall the shaman-line and lose Cleodil for this scenario. Also unable to recruit dwarves."
But I find that I can recruit and recall shamans and their advancements and recruit dwarves as well, which is not what I encountered when I played on 1.8.3 earlier. (I'm unable to recall dwarves and Olurf - I know this is normal)
In Northern Battle,
I can't recall the shaman-line advancements and Cleodil is on side 2.
Side 2 stops recruiting when Cleodil is recalled.
I have attached screenshots and saves:
Look at the top and see the "Invalid WML Message"

Lord-Knightmare, please choice better titles for your forum posts.

What do you think, are bugs (as you call them yourself) intentional?

I gave the title for a reason. I reviewed the scenario file, and I saw that the problem was caused by the extra_recruit sub tag, and the event prestart killed Olurf and my dwarven veterans, but did not disallow the recruitment of dwarf troops. Also, I was able to recruit Shamans and recall their advancements, as well as Cleodil, because the variable which caused them to be stored was omitted intentionally.
I request you to see this file.

A good title for a post in "Technical Support" that concerns the "Legend of Wesmere" campaign
is best to contain the abbreviation for the campaign: "LoW"

If the story tells [A] but the game mechanics work like [not A] we have a bug on the one or the other side no matter what was intended.

The best way to get a bug repaired is filling a bug report at http://bugs.wesnoth.org.
There as well, having the "LoW" in the title helps immensely to get the bug to the right person.

As to the bug itself.
You may have noticed that recruiting and recalling is done on a per leader basis for the last few versions.
So not having Olurf around anymore will be enough to keep you from recruiting or recalling Dwarves for example.

Last few versions? Due to slow internet I was unable to download versions later than 1.9.4 . When I had Qubee (fastest internet available in my country), I downloaded 1.9.8 directly, so I was unaware of these changes.

If recruit list were leader specific, why was I able able to recruit dwarves with Kalenz? And recall shamans with Lander and Kalenz?

Thank you very much.

No problem, just be aware, if you report bugs on a development version, it's always a good idea to check if the latest version does still behave badly or a bug report has already been filed.

I am not sure.
You may have had continued a savegame from a previous version, there was a bug fixed by Anonymisimus that prevented the recall filters to pass an advancement or many different things I don't know about.

This explains so many things. I used debug to correct the things, like turning Cleodil back to side 1, taking back my shaman advancements from Lander, in Northern Battle. And in End of War, I had control over Lander (took the honest way and used the droid command). I also refrained myself from recruiting dwarves in the last few scenarios.
