Can not exit the game
I’m running Debian 12.11 KDE and just installed wesnoth 1:1.16.9-1 all installed ok however when I tried to exit the game it will not I can only get out by doing a hard reset.

What does hard reset mean? You need to reboot your device? If so then it's unlikely wesnoth can do anything about that. Sounds like an OS or hardware issue.
I suggest rather installing and playing wesnoth.1.18 instead, btw.
