New Names for Night time (nightfall, twilight)

Post by Observer1 »

This is a little random.

I just find 1st Watch and 2nd Watch to be a little boring and lacking color.
Why not call it something else?
Just as a suggestion:

Nightfall
Twilight

or darkness, evening, blackness, dark, eventide, gloom, midnight, nighttime?

Also -- I think the graphics for the Sun and Moon are great -- but I think they move from right to left. Maybe that has something to do with the Sun rising in the East and setting in the West, but I would personally prefer it to run from left to right. It really confused me at first. Most non-Asian people read from left to right... it just seems much more natural (just assume everyone is facing South). It might also be worth putting a little text (dawn, dusk, etc.) as part of the graphic, to save players from having to click on it to double-check the time. (small suggestion)

I don't think those names are fitting enough to warrant a change...

This has already been discussed, and extensively. The FPI needs a lot of updating...
It's all fun and games until someone loses a lawsuit. Oh, and by the way, sending me private messages won't work. :/ If you must contact me, there's an e-mail address listed on the website in my profile.

The scenario designer decides what to call them, and he can pick any name. If any scenario designer wants different names then he can call nighttime anything he wants. The game writers, who are also the scenario designers for Heir to the Throne, have decided on those names, but anyone else may like them.

See Preferences -> Display -> Reverse Time Graphics.

This was suggested several times. In CVS it is now a tooltip -- no need to click, the text description pops up when mousing over it, at least with the DFool theme.

Under the Burning Suns is a great example of this, and a fantastic scenario as well.

No-one has suggested anything better.

'Twilight' already has a meaning in Wesnoth: it refers to the two 'neutral' times of day: dawn and dusk.

'midnight' would refer to the point in time between first and second watch. The rest of these are good generic terms for night, but don't really distinguish between the first and second parts of the night.

For that matter, I do too. They were actually used by the ancients to divide the night up. Just read the Bible to see...
