Is this “technique” allowed? (If so i recomend it)

I just figured id check first, but i was gonna recomend this idea anyway, so there is a website called “hero forge” where one can design 3d models of characters, and i was curious if those could be used as a sort of reference for portraits.
Im sort of drawing over a screenshoot of one rigth now, and ill be painting over it later, (in “Krita”, i also found it to be better than gimp and its fos software as well) i think its great for getting the proportions, shapes, and even lighting correctly, and its a free easy to use tool.(it might be a little complicated to get the facial features of characters as you want them at first, but im already getting the hang of it).
Its not ai, and as long as one draws over the model its nothing but a reference of sorts… but i thought id ask first.
I hope it’s allowed, and if so i hope it helps other people too!

As long as the final product is something you've drawn yourself, and it isn't a paint-over, I don't necessarily see a problem (but I'm not a lawyer). If you lean too hard on the model, you have to worry about copyright infringement vs derivative work, but as long as it is really just a guide/crutch, it should be OK.
