[In Progress] Afterlife Rated 1.18, A New Era

Post by dwarftough »

I'm proud to announce that Afterlife Rated has started on 1.18! It was a long wait but it's finally there.

We've continued our work on balancing using the stats we gather. In order to make it more comfortable both for us and for the players, we've created Afterlife Era that includes all our changes and adds notes in the descriptions of affected units.

Afterlife Era is based on Default Era of Wesnoth 1.16 with the following changes:
Changes:
Also we have changed the timer making it quicker. Now you receive 2.5 minutes per turn and you can accumulate up to 6 minutes if you end your turns faster.

Rules are simple: join games hosted by AfterBot, they will be "Afterlife Rated #...", play, win. After you win, whisper to the bot that you won. Get higher rating and climb the leaderboard!

Quick info on bots commands:

Commands:

won <gameid> (alternative form win <gameid>): reports the game as your win. Example: won 124. How to see the id of the game? It's written in the first bot message in the chat, also in the game title.

me: information about you. Your rating, place in the ranking, ids of your unfinished games, ids of contested games where you played.

contest <gameid>: use this command to complain about a false report (if your opp reported the game they lost as their victory) or a game with some problem or abuse (for example, your opponent didn't move at turn 1).

leaderboard (alternative form top): top 10 best players

top N: top N best players. 1 <= N <= 30.

info nick: info about player "nick"

game <gameid>: info about game gameid

history: your latest 20 games.

history nick: latest 20 games played by "nick"

history nick1 nick2: latest 20 games played by "nick1" vs "nick2" as well as some extra information about results of "nick1" against "nick2"

Hi dwarftough, the game between the undead and the dwarves is totally unbalanced; not a single dwarf unit can suppress the draug.

Hi, thank you for the replay, that was definitely interesting!

To be honest, I'm kinda glad that this change made the Draug advancement a viable option, although, unfortunately, it was tried here instead of the matchup vs the Elves (Draug change was to stay against Woses). I'm not sure though that this is completely doomed for the dwarves: amir got unlucky with leveling any Dwarvish Lords, and having even one Dwarvish Lord and heavily buffing him with strikes is a solid choice for the Dwarves, even against ghost-heavy Undead.

Of course, I thought that it may impact the Dwarves in a bad way. My hope is that the Undead can't make use of this impact resistance that much because it will mean going skeleton-heavy instead of ghost-heavy, which shouldn't be that dangerous for the Dwarves. I also buffed the Dwarves a bit against ghosts, making thieves 30% arcane resistance. Maybe the Dwarves can be buffed in a similar way, instead of nerfing Draug back? Like, add 30% arcane to footpad or to all outlaws?

Whatever the case, I'm looking forward to see more replays and reviews, both from you and from other players, to draw a more informed conclusion. Thank you for your feedback once again!

Agreed, buffed Draug brings more tactical possibilities, making the game more interesting.

Thanks for making afterlife rated, it’s fantastic. And helpful to see the stats compared to standard.

Only comment is the timer seems way too fast. There’s no way I can assign all my attacks for units in 2 minutes, while responding to the outcomes of attacks along the way - especially as the game progresses. An extra 30s even would help a lot in my experience so far.

Thank you for your feedback! I've set the timer to be 2m30s per turn and 6 min accumulator cap. Let's see how it goes, 6 min looks a bit scary but time per turn isn't too big, you won't be able to sit 6 minutes too many times

The history command on Afterlife 1.18 and Minimaps has been enhanced!
Now you can pass two arguments as well. history PlayerA PlayerB will show you 20 latest games of PlayerA against PlayerB as well as the overview of all their games (how many won, lost, overall rating change)

Game 5944 I had a winning position and DC. On returning opponent refused to hand over control for more than 10 minutes. They were just trolling. I decided to report it as my win and report here in case of contention.

Please remove 5943 as my win. gwiti won that one and I confused it with 5960 in my unfinished games.

Please write off game 6509. I disconnected on my turn on second turn and my opponent droided my side, then proceeded to refuse to join a reload of my autosave. I never played that game really.

Kittykatt contested game # 7053 by mistake. No need to review or change the result.

Game 8655 against japorta, I disconnected and they chose to droid my side and report it as their win even before the game was over by AI. I was disconnected for less than 1 minute by the way, they never waited.
