Re: Duncan's Sprite Gallery
What is that pixelated UI-like you have? Do you add it yourself? Why? I'm very curious !

Re: Duncan's Sprite Gallery
First impression IMHO is that the wings look more birdlike than batlike when I compare with existing images?
Also would be useful (for me anyway) to see the sprite actual size without scaling.
FInally the clothing/armour to me falls between two stools (have a look at the portraits, especially blademaster, flameheart and glider).
It's not entirely clear to me whether it's some sort of padded armour or just clothing - it's fine as it is but depending on the unit's usage it could perhaps be tweaked to make it more armour-like or clothing-like as appropriate?
I am being picky tho' - it looks good overall!
Hope this helps!
Cheers!

Tbf its pretty much exactly what the hurricane has. I read the hurricane as wearing chainmail and clothing which is a bit strange, I agree.Spannerbag wrote: January 1st, 2026, 12:59 pm FInally the clothing/armour to me falls between two stools (have a look at the portraits, especially blademaster, flameheart and glider).

Mmm... looking at the 1.19 sprites and portraits I see what you mean.DuncanDill wrote: January 1st, 2026, 5:15 pm Tbf its pretty much exactly what the hurricane has. I read the hurricane as wearing chainmail and clothing which is a bit strange, I agree.
FWIW I focused on the portraits...
Thanks - sadly bit busy right now, will have a proper look tomorrow with luck.DuncanDill wrote: January 1st, 2026, 5:15 pm here you go (ignore the right arm, i am working on fixing that)

Re: Duncan's Sprite Gallery
OK, have a bit of time now.
This feedback is based on looking at your actual size sprite, not the enlarged one.
Looking at the (1.19) sprites there is - to me anyway - a fair bit of variation in the snout/nose area.
However I still think the head overall looks, maybe, a bit too rhinoceros-like?
The head also looks bolted onto the torso although again several drakes don't seem to have much by way of necks?
Not sure exactly what I find a bit off; maybe try shortening the nose/snout and/or changing the jawline to suggest the neck area more clearly and/or square off the mouth?
The headgear/hat area is also - for me anyway - difficult to decipher and I'm not quite sure what I'm looking at: some sort of bobble-hat or head horns covered in some material?
Sorry that I can't be more precise, I'm no artist.
I suppose all I can say is that I find the head area generally a bit confusing and somehow a bit out of proportion but not sure whether removing detail and/or re-shaping is required.
Out of interest, are you planning to create a full set of sprites or will you just be doing this one?
Hope my random witterings are helpful!
Cheers!

Re: Duncan's Sprite Gallery
Finally got a new computer after my old one broke, so now I can get back to the art grind. It will probably take me a while to get back into the groove though, so I will definitely be revisiting these pieces at a later date.
I must say I do like the second one alot, but something about the first just feels really off to me.

Re: Duncan's Sprite Gallery
And I've finished this unit line!
I think this does a good job at looking like a younger version of the peasant lord, and I also adore the clothing on this one. This is only for a cutscene, so I didn't really do much different from the youth apart from changing clothes and making it look older. This is the first unit I started working on from this line, so its quite fun to see how my style/skills have progressed I do like this a lot, but i'm worried its a bit too similar to the marauder
? Oh, and I also need to fix the shadow.
Eeeek! This was really hard get right, due to the dramatic pose. I really struggled doing something with the other arm, so I've just hidden it. It's definitely my least favorite out of all of these, but I'm not sure how to fix it.
And the final advancement. I think this does a good job at being very intimidating, and I'm a sucker for mega weapons
