How do I update Wesnoth?

Hello, I don't know whether this question has already been answered or not but I'd really like to know if there's a proper way to update the Wesnoth client without downloading and installing the whole thing all over again. I mean my client version is 1.16.1 and the current version is 1.16.5. How to I get my version to .5?

Unless you have the steam client, that's the only way to update it. Steam client can update and jump between versions 1.14/1.16 and 1.17

(also, you dont need to update if you have a self-compiled client)

Depending on your operating system, itch.io/flatpak is also an option.

What's a self-compiled client?

Wesnoth's source code is publicly available, so you can compile it yourself into the wesnoth executable if you wanted to.
