introduction
:
Drakes are large, winged and fire-breathing creatures, reminiscent of true dragons. On average, an adult drake stands around three meters tall and easily weighs more than a man and a horse combined. Their skin is made up of hard scales, resistant to most physical strikes except piercing and cold damage. Most drakes are capable of true flight and can travel long distances quickly. However, their sheer weight and bulk limits their flight ability somewhat, making them ungainly in the air. Where possible, they make use of terrain features such as hills, mountains and trees as launch points in order to gain greater height and speed. Fortunately for their enemies, they are still quite clumsy creatures and surprisingly slow in combat. This, combined with their large size, renders them easy targets for those who dare attack them.

Drakes are inherently magical creatures, with a mysterious internal fire fueling their very lives. This can easily be witnessed when one of their kind perishes in combat; its internal fire is released, burning their remains in to ashes. Their internal fire is also their greatest weakness; it makes them extremely vulnerable to cold attacks. Despite their magical nature, drakes are incapable of channeling magic in a controlled manner. While the magic imbued within a drake’s body enables it to spit fire and gives it life, they have no willful control over the functions of this magic.
History
• Arrival to Firecloud Peak (120 BW)
A big groups of Drakes -mostly from the Silver Clad Drakes- arrived to Firecloud Peak. They drove the Dwarves to Triththa and enslaved the Saurians and the small tribe of Nagas. They founded a kingdom with a large influence in the area which lead to a long conflict with the High-Elves.
• Colonial era (130 BW - 540 YW)
The Drakes established a great kingdom and waged war against all surrounding area reaching Shakaar Mountains north, Flamebreath Desert south and the Mystic Lake east. The Golden War
was the most notable war of that era.
The Golden War (476 YW - 540 YW)
After many skirmishes with High-Elves, the Golden War declared. The High-Elves sent an assassination elite squad leaded by ten high level commanders to take down Kran Kor the Mighty, king of the Drakes and a mutant who carry the real arch dragons' genes. The both sides was trapped into a tunnel by an earthquake and they all presumed dead. Grenn Ohn, his successor , began a new era by trying to limit the power of the three highest councils who thrive by the wars. He was very respected by his people but the political opposition was very powerful .
• Peace era (540 BW - 602 YW)
The Frontier Pact (540 YW)
A pact between Firecloud Drakes and Len Elens High-Elves ended the war. The Drakish king proved to be honest with High-Elves and other regions.
The Dark Elves (543 YW)
A mysterious race of Elves surfaced near Shakaar. It was confirmed that they are tithe successors of the ten commanders and they was named the Dark Elves. Grenn Ohn occasionally saved the Minotaurs fighting against this bloodthirsty foe. An act earned him their deep gratitude and his title: the Holder of the Crown of Light.
The Silver War (550 YW)
A mutiny leaded by the Silver Council fired a civil war among Drakes. The causality was incredibly high and the High-Elves interfered to save the king and helped him to rebuild the kingdom. The war ended by a vengeful mystical Saurian (an ex-slave) who turned the Silver Council into a petrified status at the cost of his life.
The Saurians' Revenge (557 YW)
While the Drakes still hesitant between destroying the Silver status (to prevent their possible reanimation) and to protect the status as sacred, a suicidal fanatic platoon of Saurians from Ssriuss Fen destroyed the status. The Drakes considered it an act of war but they never really reacted as it relief them from the burden of taking a controversial decision about the status.
The Dark War (600 YW)
Dwarves from Triththa recruit a huge mercenary army (basically Dark Elves and Dunefolks) to take down Firecloud mountains for its mines as they built an industrial imperialistic society. The High-Elves finally saved the Drakes and the Dark Elves was trapped into a deep abyss by the power of the Orb of Light then sealed there but the war was cataclysmic. General Amandine (the High-Elf hero of The Silver War) and king Reshan Ohn (the last offspring of a diamond Drakish egg) both died, Firecloud Peak became a volcanic hole and most of the Drake population were killed. The Drakes asked the Minotaur people for an exile and they were granted a refuge on Kehshakaar.
• Kehshakaar era (602 BW - ~ YW)
Assuming that their lost was caused by the lack of magic and technology against a developed society, the Drakes formed a new culture which transformed them into a new sub-race: the Kehshakaar Drakes. A less warlike people thirst for knowledge with their own shamans and with more protective armors.
Geography
Kehshakaar Mountain is the home of those Drakes. A region of volcanic mountains and hills with rare forests. the region have a rich fauna (bears, bores, falcons ...) suitable for hunt.
This area is located north west of Shakaar Mountain (Minotaur), east of Len Elns (High-Elves), south of The Swamps of Thousand Frogs (swamplike races) and close to the city of Mhregost (a free-market city).
Politics
• Government
The Kehshakaar Drakes reserve a deformed political system from their original common system. Kings still chosen from Royal Eggs but a hard mental test instead of battle to death between candidates. The losers have a chance to become high judges (and not automatically resigned).
The authorities is equally shared between the different High Councils: the Golden Council (military matters and guardians), the Silver Council (scientific and education matters) and the Bronze Council (economic and health matters). It is more like a constitutional monarchy but the king have the upper hand on many critical issues.
• Foreign relations
The external politic seems to be more pragmatic. While war isn't really feared or hated, it remains just a last resort. Kehshakaar Drakes have a good reputation as an honest and open especially for Minotaur and Elves, feared by their foes and willing to learn any useful domain. This reputation make them unique for the Draconian races.
Demographics
There is at least 300.000 Drakes in Kehshakaar, most of them are in the capitol or close to it.
• Languages
The Drakes use two languages (aside of the common language of the center of Irdya).
The old language heritable from their ancient origin and known for its complexity. Used only by scholars:
