Addan-Shem's W's and WIP's

Post by Addan-Shem »

Look on my works, ye mighty, and please offer your critique and comments! :D

While working on a custom faction/campaign, I needed some mesoamerican-ish pyramid-shaped villages, but they ended up being harder to create than I initially assumed. So, I made some egyptian pyramids for practice.

This stuff is really good! I look forward to seeing how the mesoamerican pyramids turn out.

Nice. If im not being too much can you please make an 3. pyramid variation ? because the macro for village graphics -im not exactly sure but- expects atleast 3 variations(atleast i know the mainline villages always have 3 variations) and im too lazy to go define an macro for using only 2 variants. If not, i can simply clone and rotate one so the system sees it as the third

Rotating will mess up the shadows, so I tried my hand at a franken.

Really good looking stuff here! You should fix the shadow though. It doesn't match with the bright and dark side of the pyramids (and obelisks). Also, IMO there could be more clear lines on the levels of the pyramids. Now it looks bit too smooth and plain.

Thank you! How does the shadow not match? The darkest side is in the back, it's just that the lighting is very high contrast (as it should be in the desert), so other sides are dark too, although I admit I might have slightly overdone it. When I was shading, I looked at this village:

Again, the effect is, perhaps, a bit too prominent in my case. I'll try to use less contrast next time.

The lines were clearer first, but then the scale looked off - like each level was quite thick. The implication is that these pyramids are huge and very far away, so IMO it's fine if at a glance they seem smooth, as long as the levels are at all readable at somewhat closer inspection.

First mesoamerican pyramid I'm more or less content with. A piece of fire snapped from rhyging5's awesome animations.

Whoa, those look really good!

For the fire Temple, i think the red Stripes might have a bit too much contrast. :) They look quite shiny.

The fire does not exactly connect into that hole below, you may want to move it an couple pixels down.
Also, you may like to animate that fire in 4-5 frames, as its possible to animate terrain tiles.

The Blood God is upset, but I turned the red down a little. Does seem better, thanks!

Yes, I figure I probably should make an animation, as well as a custom flame, so I'll keep this one just for reference now.

Tried a little bit different slope design on the fire temple, what do you think?

Also, another pyramid was spotted in the desert. Tried to make the dark side brighter, but isn't it less fitting? A comparison:

I think this one's good enough to be considered finished.

Made a piece of scenery as well. Skeleton nabbed from here.

The skeleton Outlines seem a bit too bright. Making them a tad darker might be good.

The jungle Temple looks great now, I didn't realise that the red is supposed to be blood. :)
