Re: Imperial Era (now available for Wesnoth 1.11)

Post by UnwiseOwl »

So, in a fit of madness, I've waded through all the errors and brought the Feudal Era up to 1.11 for you, Temuchin Khan. It's as rough around the edges as it's always been, and I haven't made any fixes, just commented out sections of code that were causing issues (including sand ambush for the Kedari) to get it up, but at least it works. It is scarily unbalanced, but hey, maybe that will make people appreciate that the IE isn't so terrible after all :P
Details are in the changelog enclosed with the era, and if you notice anything that ought to be changed (and there is a lot), feel free to let me know. I'll probably make a thread sometime, but for now this one will do, I think.
Must be bedtime now. wOl.

Wow! Thanks! I'll take a look when I can, but I might be a bit too busy the next few days. But hey, it'll be interesting to see the old FE factions back in action!

Well, I took at least a brief look at the revived Feudal Era. I haven't checked everything, but here's what I've noticed so far:

First, some of the Kedari sprites have been matched to the wrong units. I thought I had corrected that, but I guess it got lost in the shuffle. The main offenders are the Desert Footman and the Desert Ambusher. The beardless one should be the level 1 unit, and the bearded one the level 2.

Second, the Aragwaithi still seem to be buggy in this era. Weren't you thinking of just getting them from the latest official Aragwaithi release instead of including them with the download, Unwise Owl? Did that idea work?

It is good to have these factions available again, even if they are unbalanced! But which are the worst offenders in this regard? My impression is that the most unbalanced are the Clockwork Dwarves, followed by the High Elves. The Orcish Khaganates would come next, with the Ceresian League and the Kedari tied for fourth. Probably the most nearly balanced would be the Aragwaithi. But I could be wrong, these are just my impressions. Which do you guys think are the most and least unbalanced, and how could the problem be addressed?

Also, I reversed the proposed Kedari-Ainsarii split to enable us to have a usable Kedari faction, but if there is enough interest (and enough art!), I suppose we could still implement it. Thoughts?

Hrmm...ok, I can fix that. I probably just stuffed up my moving files around. Let me know if there's any other instances.

I have copied them directly from the official release (with a couple of slight backports), but I may have produced a number of errors since all the file references and macros etc had to be changed to work with the FE rather than the default. I did hardly any testing with this, so if you notice anything in particular it'll be something that I stuffed up. I'll see if I can chase it down and fix the issue, just give me some details.

As to Ainsaari/Kedari, I think they work well together, so I'm loath to unsplit them again just yet. Let's wait and see what happens and if there's much interest first and then go from there.

I'll take another look when I can and get back to you on the Aragwaithi. I probably can't do anything before Saturday or Sunday, though.

Sounds good. I just asked because there still is a separate "Ainsarii" file in the FE download. So I guess that was an oversight, then?

Feudal Era

Post by UnwiseOwl »

If we're going to talk about this I should at least create a topic for it.
For now this post will be a placeholder until I get around to making something pretty for it.
But yeah, Feudal Era 0.2 is released and available on the 1.11 add-ons server.

In response to your qeustion in the other thread, Temuchin Khan:

Not an oversight, actually, I thought about this one, for once! I just figured that you still considered them a seperate race inside the Kedari faction, so I left them with their own folder ala the Nemidians in the Lavinian faction, etc. If this isn't the case, I can seperate them out, just let me know.

Ok, I've made an FE thread so that we can seperate this conversation off. If there's a moderator around, would they please do me a favour and move the last 5 posts to the new "Feudal Era" topic?
Much obliged, thanks.

And Temuchin, no worries about not getting to this any time soon. There's no rush, it's been doing nothing for years and it's a busy time what with it being the holidays and all. I only updated it because I got irritated at the error messages every time I logged into the multiplayer server.

Re: Feudal Era

I did get a chance to look at the Aragwaithi. Here's the situation:

If both the latest version of the Aragwaithi and the latest version of the Feudal Era are downloaded, then the Aragwaithi appear to work for the standard Feudal Era, but not for Feudal Champions. If only the Feudal Era is downloaded, the the Aragwaithi do not work at all. In either case, the error is obvious as soon as you select the Aragwaithi while setting up a game, because none of their level 2 units appear as possible leaders.

Also, I'm including a file of Kedari bugfixes with this post, including a new version of the Feudal Era's various.cfg with the new kedadriboat movetype.

And I need to go back and track down which eras I got art from to complete the Kedari. But I'm probably not going to have that much time for Wesnoth during the next three weeks, so we'll just have to see what I can actually get done....

EDIT: Made corrections to Kedari bugfixes!

Hrm, yeah, Champions won't work because that file is missing, I need to build it again, so that explains that (I left it out in a fit of crazy). I hadn't realised that I had crossover issues with the Aragwaithi, but I'll delete it and then work through the problems, hopefully it won't be too big of a fix.

As to tbe Kedari, I think from memory I have a list of where you got the art from somewhere. I'll see if I can track it down. I'll include your fixes in the next release.

Temuchin has sent through some new files making some minor changes to the Kedari so we have a new version of the Feudal Era up on the 1.11 server.

I did make changes to the Kedari, but not just to them. The most important changes were to various.cfg. Every unit in the era should be able to move in coastal reef terrain, and all but one (which shouldn't anyway) in fungus. Also, I corrected some of the FE Aragwaithi files so that they should work properly now.
