About the UMC Music add-on

Post by Huston »

Hi. I am now the maintainer of the LTD Music add-on name changed to the UMC Music add-on and i was wondering if anyone has any music files they made that they would like me to add to it. the only requirement is that it has to be in .ogg format(Since i don't know how to do this). PM me if you do.

I am hoping that this add-on may eventually contain a great number of music files(that aren't mainline of course) which UMC Authors can use in their campaigns; now that it is fixed so that they don't need to copy the miles to their campaign folder.

Regards,
Huston

I play the alto sax but i couldn't compose a good song if my life depended on it.

EDIT: Thanks to West i now know how to make mp3's into ogg's so if you want your music added all i need is a lossless mp3 version of it.

I posted in the other thread, but check out http://wesnoth.org/wiki/Available_Music. Hopefully the links aren't outdated.

mp3's aren't lossless. You'll want an uncompressed, wav, aiff, flac, or similar. Of course it might just be easier for us to convert it first, unless you're goal is to also store a lossless version.

Craving for more Wesnoth music, I downloaded this UMC Music extension, but found that not only the files are not tagged, but not even the artist is mentionned... so who shall I give credit to ?

Huston, do you have this information available ? If yes, feel free to share. :)
And if you don't know how to tag ogg files (but I'm pretty sure you do !), I can do it for you. :)

PS :
If this reply is considered thread necromancy, I apologise in advance.

Thanks for the reply, Huston.

Too bad you don't have this info ! However, maybe you could add a call to composers in your signature ? It cannot hurt, can it ?

Hi Huston, here are my results so far. The bold names have been directly confirmed by PM on this forum.

Aleksi Aubry-Carlson - Gameplay 6
Doug Kaufman - Wesnoth score
Hero Hito - Primitive war song (nope, that's no typo. The author wants "Hero", not "Hiro")
Jeremy Nicoll - Lonely snowfall
Jeremy Nicoll - Reminisce
Martin Proud - Battle cry
Olivier Militon - Dragon vert 1
Olivier Militon - Dragon vert 2
[PA] NotUncleDave - Burin the Lost
Tlogmer - Calm before the storm

Tobias Escher - Don't fear the reaper!
Tobias Escher - Go for the world... again
Tobias Escher - High in the mountains
Tobias Escher - Hoist the colours
(Those last 4 tracks have been composed for an Anno 1701 remake)

Huston, did you solved your problem? If not, what about trying VLC media player? It's opensource, its latest versions can convert and tag files quite well and, at least on Windows, it didn't asked me any Ogg/Vorbis/Theora codec.

Audacity also works fine for converting to .ogg
I will now resume lurking silently.

But please, NEVER EVER convert MP3 to Ogg or vice-versa, or any lossy-compressed file to any other. It will only degrade its quality !!!
