I like the mask look, but i'm not quite sure about the colour of the bark, particularly below the face - the bluish shade makes it look more like rock to me than wood.

I mean his right shoulder, our left. It might be the color of the lower bark combined with the white shades that do it. Thespaceinvader and I are possibly talking about a similar thing.

No, i'm talking about the side on the right of frame. But now that you mention it, the whole thing looks a little rock-like, particularly below the face - i think the hard division between the light and shade at the bottom left of frame, coupled with the above-mentioned blue colouration might be the cause.

thank you for the compliments and spaceinvader and doofus for the explanations. - now i understand what you are talking about. but i believe bark is craggy enough to legitimate the hard division. perhaps i overdid with the blue but i think it is very important for the athmosphere of the portrait which i very much want to preserve...

This time I don't like the result so much. :(
Personal taste though.

here is a half finished snobbish elf - santi can use him wether as uripur or legmir... he has a talking only role (if i remember correctly) and i took the oppurtunity to do a an elf sans armour with a civil noble outfit.

any comments?

@ shadow: sorry you don't like him - perhaps next time again...

His cranium doesn't seem deep enough to me. And i think the hands aren't quite right - they both seem a little small, and the back fo the one nearer camera seems not to be long enough.

That aside, I like the costume design and concept. I remain very impressed at the amount of differentiation in character and appearance that your elves are getting.

Great work =)

one can really rely on your quick responses! :D thank you!

you're right - there is a problem with the proportions. but what you describe are only the results of it, i believe. i tried to emphasize his masculinity and snobbiness by exaggerating his mandible... and went overboard with that. :annoyed: his hands are right in relation to his body - only his jaw is gigantic. stupid but should be an easy fix...

Yeah, looking back, that would about fix it =)

Strange how one thing can make everything else look off enough that you notice the everything else and not the one thing... Hmm...

Looks good otherwise, but I'd like to see more variation in the elven male hairstyles, that shaggy rockstar-just-got-out-of-bed look is getting repetitive. I mean, the elves are supposed to be the pinnacle of Wesnoth civilisation, one would think they'd know what a comb is for. :P

next version of uripur/legmir. everything is shaded and i redrew the head...

@ groovy: yep - you're right: the hairstyle does get repetive... it's just that i don't feel like putting much effort in elves right now. i've developed a deep resentment against those pointy eared show-offs over the time. but luckily he is the last on my list for now! yay!

Looks very good. If he were human, he'd either look too young or too well-preserved to be a lord,
but elves do not age that fast, so he can LOOK young and still be a senior figure.
So, I am quite happy with this.
