Re: Galactic Empires (Wesnoth in Space)
The bottom option is for expanded ship options. I think the problem is you have been using the the built-in convenience upgrades which you can use to increase tech in those 3, but which it seems there isn't any for expanded ship options due to the way wesnoth recruitment works.Sire wrote: ↑April 3rd, 2024, 12:18 amDoesn't look like it. I'm playing on Wesnoth 1.16.2 and the mod version is Galactic Empires 5.7.0.Computer_Player wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 10:29 pm That's definitely not supposed to happen, and is not my experience with it. D: Glad you were able to have fun regardless tho. Has the issue resolved itself since then? Tried the survival yet?
-- Tried a short game controlling both sides (Dwartha and Terran), and both of them don't seem to get access. I'm stuck with the basic "scout" ships and the transports, nothing higher is unlocked if playing on Primitive and one researches higher tech levels. // That said, I just briefly went in for this instead of fully testing, so maybe something happens for the Terran if I upgrade stuff.
=== To my knowledge, there's HQ Upgrade, Planet Upgrade, and Ship Upgrade (Parts).
=== I was originally playing as the Dwartha and had all three branches maxed out, but got no access to the higher level ships. Again, not sure if intentional (starting tech levels also determines recruits throughout the match), or not (raising tech level also allows for more ship types).
As for Survival, I briefly looked at it, but haven't played a proper game of it yet. I'll try that one later.
If you right click researchers and choose research options, you see the full tech tree in one menu and upgrade from there.
Perhaps a suggestion would be to include expanded ship options as a convenience upgrade alongside the planet upgrade when you right click a planet? At anyrate, using the researcher right click menu should solve your problem

Re: Galactic Empires (Wesnoth in Space)
Yup, that's it. Like I said, it's been a while, so I've just been doing the right click on the respective things (HQ, Planet, Ships), instead of the Researchers themselves.Computer_Player wrote: ↑April 3rd, 2024, 11:25 am The bottom option is for expanded ship options. Agree that it access to the upgrades is "uneven". I've grumbled to myself about having to find a researcher (and what happens if they're all dead I wonder) in order to access that one.
Re: Galactic Empires (Wesnoth in Space)
Hi, are there any plans for GE on new server?

If it's not been ported to 18 yet you can just copy it from 16 and 99% likelyhood it will work.

Excellent we are in business then.
Re: Galactic Empires (Wesnoth in Space)
Hi, I was playing the mod with a friend yesterday and thought that it would be cool to have a tech to launch a space station on any planet, so I coded it into the mod. Its just proof of concept right now and it doesn't do anything, but I'll probably make it so that researchers can work on them (planet radius + 1 research points per turn) here is what it looks like right now
(I didn't draw a space station so for now use your imagination)

Practice makes perfect, why don't we practice helping others?

So kind of a SpaceLab for researchers to get out of the way of the farmers and miners? Interesting. I suppose it ought to be vulnerable to invasion as well as spaceship attacks though.

Re: Galactic Empires (Wesnoth in Space)
Galactic Empires is now available on the add-on server for Wesnoth 1.18. Let me know if anything is amiss, seems to work fine for me.
The only thing I noticed was that all the units flash in and out when other sides are taking their turn. It's quite distracting. I reported this here when I tested out 1.17, but it's still happening. I never saw this on 1.16 or before, anyone know what might be causing this graphical glitch?

My current projects:

RPG sequel: Return to Trent
MP stealth campaign: Den of Thieves

Re: Galactic Empires (Wesnoth in Space)
Well at that point, you can make a recruitable ship that works as a pseudo-planet. I am imagining somewhat similar to how bought ships work in High Seas. Perhaps limit it to 1 per planet / homeworld so maps don't have to be too enlarged to give space for anticipated space stations.
At anyrate, thanks for the port Bob. Had a few games to shake off the cobwebs

Note for bringing people on board: The tutorial does not go over heroes or the the 2 differing modes of play (pts vs domination), so don't forget to talk about how they work after they go through the tutorial.

It is not GE, I've had it elsewhere using 1.18.3 CI.Bob_The_Mighty wrote: ↑November 18th, 2024, 11:50 pm The only thing I noticed was that all the units flash in and out when other sides are taking their turn. Re: Galactic Empires (Wesnoth in Space)
I've played it a bit, things I notice that should be improved:
- trigger victory condition "Domination" on the at the start of your next turn (atm it's a turn x side 1)
- shuffle aliens and artifacts this will reduce the advantage of knowing a map by a lot, also it will increase the fun of exploring
- give p2 a bonus, since p1 has the advantage (being 1 turn faster, at planets)
There are other things too, but that's about balance I'm not yet sure what's the best way to play and can't be sure about those.

Assimilate the Hacker!
Super op unit, with 2 attacks on hit it's stealing control of the opponent unit (even lvl 3). Probably it wasn't meant to be abused by human.

Re: Galactic Empires (Wesnoth in Space)
So had some games since then. Posting a couple of games.. the first (Terran supvsetrt vs Iildari me on Beta) was because I find it notable to be one of the rare instances where I didn't commit to an econ game. Not even tier 2 HQ upgrades due to circumstances regarding the center- opting to gain supremacy in the space battle with some tactics with early ship upgrades. I do believe the VP points condition is very effective in forcing combat so in that respect it is successful, though the default is I think too generous and a +2 to it is needed for most maps (at least for me) to ensure a game with some moderate length.
GG.
2nd game attached also is my second game with SkyEnd (Terran mirror) where he went with Tier 1 Ship as the first research. I played suboptimally and with poor luck, but it is interesting that somebody tried it with success. I do believe the play here is to spread out and leverage scout mobility to threaten blockades, but you do have to contest VP, especially with default settings such as this one.
GG
Together they provide glimpses into alternate strats that I hope can be explored further in the future.
