I tried myself on the dread lich. It's a complete redraw, but I tried to stick to the old design.

Nice i like it very much, but would you make it slightly larger so it is similar size to the ancient lich?

(this is just a personal opinion and if you don't want to modify it then thats fine :D )

This version is slightly bigger. I don't think it should be as tall as the ancient lich, because the dread lich is described as 'crawling'.

In the new version I also changed his hip and legs. It should now be clearer how the legs are connected with the rest of the body, but the loincloth covers most of its spine, so I'm not sure which version looks better.

I think it is definitely good bigger :D but also i do like the spine from the old sprite. Perhaps this new sprite could have a smaller loin cloth?

This is the shortest lincloth I can make without this threat becoming nsfw. Should I animate this version?

This is a skeleton. Even if it is totally naked, there is nothing there which could be NSFW.

Yeah, I don't think it needs any loincloth. If you want it for TC then sure, but the staff or any other piece of fabric would probably work just as well.

Also, this is a bit of a late suggestion, but it could be a bit taller. That is, the spine between hips and ribcage could be a few pixels longer. I don't know if it really even needs a tail in the first place, either. Having an upright humanoid skeleton mounted on top of a set of spider legs is pretty creepy, and adding extra limbs or other features might actually make it less so. But then again this isn't a horror game, so maybe the tail is good after all?

I did make the loincloth because the original sprite had something like this, but mostly kept it because hips with 4 legs and spine/tail are hard to draw.
So here is the new version. It might need more space between ribcage and hips, but is it an improvement?

The old dense animation had a sort of magical bubble around the sprite, should the new one have this too?

Yes, it does, and yes, it is.

Probably not, but if it does, it should be a separate halo image anyway.

Yeah, that seems good. I tried a quick (unposted) edit, and shifting the ribcage and everything above it 2px up already made a noticeable difference. If you're interested in more alterations, then maybe the our-right arm makes the legs harder to read and could be repositioned somehow, but if you just want to get it over with quickly then it's fine as it is.

And yes, no need for the bubble.

Here is the final version, unless ther are some major problems. I would leave the right arm as it is in the standing-frame. In animation it will be moved, making the legs easier to read.

For anyone interestet, I've made an edit on the my older versions to create this floating lich. I'm not gonna work on the skeleton-mage any further, but it is free to use if someone wants it for his UMC.

That floating giant insect-like lich could use a floating animation...(like 3 pixels up and 3 pixels down?)

@Vyncyn: your spider lich looks way better than the one in UtBS. Nice work! :D

Finished the animation frames. Top row are defense and melee, bottom row are the ranged attack frames. I've decided to make 2 melee and 3 ranged frames like the lich and ancient lich. The old dread lich had 1 melee and 4 ranged.
If the frames are ok that way I'll upload them with the unit file.

Looks okay. There's still a couple of hours until tagging of 1.13.7, so if you're quick...
