Re: Saurian Mainline Canon and Info ?
I would mention that in Dead Water saurians kept drake as slave.redbeard2 wrote: ↑June 25th, 2024, 4:12 am In Rose of wesnoth the Saurians were depicted as on friendly terms with naga, another race not very well developed at all. In one of Haldric’s quest missions they summon mudcrawlers.
In Winds of Fate the Saurians are allowed to visit elvish territory (right before trashing it), so it wasn’t always just war with neighbors, though they clearly didn’t like each other.
Although there are Saurians who follow the drakes in Winds of Fate, it isn’t clear how official this is with Saurgrath (or however it’s written), the drakes don’t lift a claw to help against Kalenz and have nothing to do with the Saurian-Orc alliance that invaded Wesmere

And this is centuries after the events of Winds of Fate, the Drakes have such rare appearances in mainline it is unclear if they still have any interactions with saurians. At least in Northern Rebirth and the new Eastern Invasion, the latest campaigns where drakes show up that I remember, no such alliance is apparent at all.I would mention that in Dead Water saurians kept drake as slave.

In both they don't have any interactions. Saurians don't even take place in both campanings.redbeard2 wrote: ↑June 26th, 2024, 12:12 amAnd this is centuries after the events of Winds of Fate, the Drakes have such rare appearances in mainline it is unclear if they still have any interactions with saurians. Re: Saurian Mainline Canon and Info ?
I think a case can be made that the names and constituents of the multiplayer factions in the "Default Era" are meant to represent the major power blocks around the time of Heir to the Throne and in the vicinity of the Kingdom of Wesnoth. So at that time and place, most saurians are allied with drakes, most nagas and trolls are allied with orcs, mermish are cooperating heavily with both humans and elves, and so on...redbeard2 wrote: ↑June 26th, 2024, 12:12 am And this is centuries after the events of Winds of Fate, the Drakes have such rare appearances in mainline it is unclear if they still have any interactions with saurians. The trouble is just that we campaign developers too often miss opportunities to follow canon as consistently as we could and probably should. Perhaps the best example of this is how we never fixed the oversight of Northern Rebirth referring to what is clearly enough the "Knalgan Alliance" (the name of the multiplayer faction) as the "Northern Alliance" instead.

Another good way to display this would be maybe explaining the alliance somewhat in the race/faction descriptions on the website. Other factions have small historical descriptions, not rehashing campaigns but to-the-point explanations, could be worthwhile, as well as timeline updating

I would also say, that saurians are not a single faction.
Not a single faction that is allied with the drakes, orcs, what so ever.
In Liberty Asheviere Orcs hired saurians of the grey forest.
Somewhat in HttT there are saurians in the depth near the scepter of fire and nowhere seen in the swamp of dread.
In Dead Water, there is a slaver saurian tribe. Who their trading with? Maybe orcs. Tirigaz in the North of this tribe.
In SotBe we meet here the saurians of the Black Marshes. They are different again. Allied with the orcs to fight Thelien Elves mostly and in the campaign the Northern Alliance.
Legend of Wesmere we meet the Saurgath swamp of the dread saurians. They aren't allied to anyone it seems. They are even hiring saurian mercenaries.
Rise of Wesnoth, they are allied with Naga and having a Dragon as leader.
We also need to consider the lifespan of a saurian 13 to 15 years. Alliance can be broken and renewed in a very fast pace.
The drakes campaign I did not play.
