It's terrible when jetryl gives us a glimpse of something so beautiful and then says we can't use it. It's just so pretty! ;-)

I hope that we can find a freeware font that works just as well. I like the horizontal title as opposed to the rounded shield curved logo, the shield just seems very viking, and the rounded logo looks a bit corny. With apoligies to Woodwizzle, I realize he's been working hard on that logo, but I was just never a big fan of it.

I really like the dark blue and gold coloring tha Jetryl used, it seems very regal.

I actually find it kind of hard to read the dark blue lettering against the purple background. I think something that stood out a little better -- something with higher contrast -- would be good. The gold trim helps, but not, IMO, enough.

Contrariwise, on the shield, the gold trim of the letters blends in too much; a completely different color/set of colors should be used there, I think.

I do like the basic design -- having "Battle" as large as (and balancing) "Wesnoth" is actually very nice, although I was taken aback at first. Kudos (yet more kudos) to Jetryl for that.

I've been wondering what those darn "kudo" things are for the longest time. Sure, it means "congrats," or otherwise, but what on earth did that word come from?

(nevermind: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kudos I'm beginning to think that wikipedia might be the coolest thing since the world wide web. It's like a dictionary that actually looks up the things you're interested in, and then gives you an encylopedia-sized result.)

Not wesnothish at all. Sorry. Doesn't fit.

Nice work, Jetryl! The shield looks sweet.

I would like to see Woodwizzle's Wesnoth font, with the black center like your lettering, with the same quality lighting effects you are currently using. Essenially, just swap your shield into Woodwizzle's current logo, and make his font coloring like yours. That would be sweet.

You guys are awesome at this stuff. Great work!

I like Dave's input on this. Having mouseover pictures appear would definitely add to the main screen of the game. Also, I think that the suggested fonts look good and should be considered for use in the game.

It reminds me of the "original" wesnoth buttons (0.3.4), with a different color. IIRC, those buttons were automatically generated with the gimp, but didn't look very good IMHO.

I agree that those buttons didn't look very good. The point of buttons is to provide needed functionality with as little confusion as possible. They need to be simple and easy to understand. We don't need buttons that have some crazy background that might make the text difficult to read. I have played games that try to be unique in their button design, but just end up detracting from the playability. I think the current buttons are adequate. I think the only reason to change them would be to have a color that fits with a new background image.

Color can always be modified. IIRC, it has been modified after version 0.4.x

Those ones have a lot more commercial mass-product feel to them in some ways, like in Warcraft. Especially Woodwizzle's shield immidiately brings warcraft into my mind.
I'm agree that the actual one is more unique. I don't like some of the letters, but they have character and make the logo a lot more unique.
The Jetryl's logo looks really awesome, however I don't like the pre-made fonts, although they have a lot of furniture, they still seems to me clonic and vulgar. I'd try to make some fonts by hand or evolve a vectorized version of the actual logo.
The tool for calligraphic lines in Inkscape is really useful for this... I've been trying to draw some classic gothic fonts in it, although there is nothing like pen and ink:

Red ink looks beautiful... :)

Hey, this is MHO about the fonts... the new logo looks really amazing, congrats to everybody by your work, this game have great art (great art for a great game). Thanks to all!

PD: I'll try to do a vectorized version of the actual fonts by the end of week... and see how does it looks... :P see you!
