Does that mean I'm right about being flamed? Or that they should get guns?
Sorry for the meaningless post

And now has one. I must admit, I'm quite sympathetic to the Msr. Dumas' works, and have styled my fellow after the king's musketeers.

That said, my ideal rank listing would be:

Fencer -> Cadet -> Master-at-Arms

But for obvious reasons to do with renaming issues, I'll settle for:

Fencer -> Duelist -> Master-at-Arms

Duelist is just a dumb name, is all - not unlike "tribalist".

Wow. That looks very pirate-like. Maybe it's the sword-rapier-whatever though.

It looks cool... but, what with its semi-realistic clothing and all, it doesn't really fit with the current fencer and duelist. (Which is OK, since I think they should be changed - but) this means the fencer and duelist images will probably have to be redone.

However, this unit will almost certainly not get into 1.0, so we have a bit of time...

I don't fully understand your critique of the clothing. Do you mean it's more historically realistic?

I just don't believe that anyone, at any time, would ever wear brown boots, green stockings, a cyan shirt, a red cape, a purple bandanna, a dark green hat, and a blue feather. Especially an aristocrat, who is supposed to know how to dress himself. ;)

No of course not. However, when they where on the field of battle, they would wear heavy brown boots, typically dark colored stockings, a white or blue or shirt, no cape, some would wear bandannas, light armor, and a dark hat with a bright feather. So actually, except for the overcoat, it is very accurate.

This discussion is hypothetical did you see them. I don´t think one of the registred users here is old enough to have seen one of them.

Even in these days where camouflage was ignored the wouldn´t were bright colors for long. In the battle they would get covered with dust, mud and hopefull the blood of their enemies.

The new grahic is good but the the bandana together with the hat is exaggerated why should he wear both? I think the color conflicts with the other colors it looks a little bit like he has got red hair.

swashbuckler, actuially isn't nautical, but people confuse it w/ buckaneer

It comes just means someone brave and daring, and really skilled, which is why I suggested it, as they are stereotypically the ones with long rapiers, doing crazy things, like imagine the fencer line to do :).

Champion remeinds me of like medieval lady's champions, and to me they seem more bulky, not as nimble as fencer line appears.

Sword/Blade Master are fine except for previously stated issues.

Sorry if this doesn't add anything :(

Ireally love Jetryl's image, though agree about the bandanna

I was talking about the duelist image, not the master-at-arms image. I really like the MAA guy, I was complaining about how messed up the duelist looks. I doubt they even posess dyes that bright in Wesnoth.

If the duelist really must look 'pimped out', at least keep it to a reasonable number of colors. A normal colored hat and the same color for the feather and bandanna would go a long way. I'll see if I can make an edited image of the duelist that looks better.

[edit]
really quick example
