X Shok's maps

Post by X Shok »

So, here are my multiplayer maps. They are all symmetric to simplify balancing and they aren't uneasonably huge. I tried to design them so that every faction should have a chance. On each map there are 6-8 villages per player.

Not all of these maps are tested in multiplayer, but I think they are well playable.

For team maps: The order is 1-2-1-2 on 2vs2 maps and 1-2-1-2-1-2 on 3vs3 maps. On some maps other orders could be possible too, just try them out if you like.

The .txt files (maps) should be placed in /userdata/editor/maps

Here is the first one: A 1 vs 1 map: Compact

Update: Now there's a newer version of this map available on page 2 of this thread.

Just another cool 1vs1vs1 map. Perhaps it's not quite perfectly balanced, but games on it could still be interesting.

Update: Newer version of this map on page 3 of this thread.

Now a 3vs3 player map. 6 Kingdoms. Only play this one if you have a lot of time, but then it should be quite fun.

Newer versions available (on page 2 of this thread)!

These maps look cool....it's great to see the multiplayer community producing so many good maps.

[IMHO]
Compact - looks really nice and intresting. Is probably balanced too
Face-to-Face - seems to favor drakes cause water (flyers) and saurians (caves/sand)
Trinity - same as Compact
Icecore - looks nice... but maybe too much forest for elves and too less mountains for dwarwes?
6-Kingdoms - REALLY nice map - I like it. Players has to think about helping their allies a lot, that's why I like it so much. Only bad think about that ma is that it is rather big one. Maybe you can do little smaller version?
[/IMHO]
Good work :)

Maps look good. Variety in terrain and good layouts. Only thing I would check for - make sure in the duel maps that first player doesn't have a large advantage. I noticed some villages near the middle of the maps and equidistant(or near that) villages almost always end up going to the first player giving him quite an advantage.

I think it would be enough if the starting castles had less castle hexes. Like 2-4. Then the first player would still have an advantage, but not a too big one. This could be compensated by giving the second player 125 gold at the beginning or so.

And maybe I should have more grasland in my maps. Loyalists often have a hard time. But I don't know yet. I like this stlye with many different terrains and the tactical possibilities connected to them.

@ 6-Kingdoms: It is big, yes. But I think it would be hard to make a smaller version with the same "feeling". However if many people think I should make a smaller version I will try to do that.
