Crash logs anywhere?
Does the game record any logs? Where can I find them (1.16, Linux)?
I have a strange bug in that new scenario where during the first AI turn it thinks a little, then the game just vanishes. I'd like to get a hint about what happens (there is no complicated code in there yet, so it has to be something stupid).

Re: Crash logs anywhere?
Run Wesnoth, then on the starting screen click the little "i" button in the bottom left corner and it should show you where the logs are.
Re: Crash logs anywhere?
No luck: It points only to the usual suspects (/.config/wesnoth-1.16), and I had already checked, there are no logs to be found in there.
The little "i" menu doesn't actually mention any logs.
Does Wesnoth write logs?

Re: Crash logs anywhere?
It looks like the log files were added in Wesnoth 1.18. Actually they were available on Windows before that, but you're on Linux so you won't get those. With version 1.16 on Linux, if you run Wesnoth from the command line in a terminal, you should see the log messages.

Thanks! What's the correct command line for Wesnoth?gnombat wrote: July 25th, 2026, 1:02 pm if you run Wesnoth from the command line in a terminal, you should see the log messages.
I see
sh -c "wesnoth-1.16 >/dev/null 2>&1", but I have no clue what the >/dev/null 2>&1" part is for. Re: Crash logs anywhere?
You can probably just run
Code: Select all
wesnoth
That part actually discards log messages, so you don't want that. Just run
wesnoth and you should see log messages displayed on your terminal.Re: Crash logs anywhere?
Yes, I guessed that much, that's why I asked...gnombat wrote: July 25th, 2026, 2:10 pm That part actually discards log messages, so you don't want that.
Thanks, will try.
Re: Crash logs anywhere?
Just "wesnoth" works fine, thanks again. Now I know what's happening, although I have no clue what it means.
