More UI changing options as an extended micro setting

Post by shevegen »

Wesnoth has many options available that a player can change. This is great when it is needed.
Players can customize wesnoth to their preferences - that is, in my opinion, objectively a good
thing when wanted.

One option I would like to have is to make the cursor bigger, specifically, like 2x or 3x
as an option. A scaling option. Perhaps a left-right toggle drag, in the extended option
setting, where it defaults to 1x, but we can move it to the right towards 1.5x 2.0x and so
forth. I like the cursor being bigger, largely not only because of my eye sight being
poor, but more importantly because I have a strange ultra-wide monitor and for some
reason the software is confused, and thinks I have strange defaults, thus the cursor
I am using on IceWM on Linux is super-small. The cursor in Wesnoth is a bit better,
but even that one I'd love to have a bit bigger, 2x or 3x should suffice. But I think
right now we don't have such an option?

It is probably easy to do, e. g. just scale the aspect ratio accordingly. This is probably
easy to do in SDL. I guess the main question is whether anyone else would also
like to have this. If I am the only one then it is not worth a change here, but if several
people may find this useful then perhaps this could eventually be added.

In general I'd love to have more options, not just with regards to UI but also ad-hoc
changes for scenarios or campaigns in the long run. For instance, as I dislike the
berserk-until-death mechanic, I'd like to disable this for any scenario (I am fine with
lesser berserk, e. g. combat rounds continue with penalty, but then eventually stop;
I dislike the idea that berserk by default continues until one unit is dead. I understand
the strategic idea behind it, I just dislike the mechanic nonetheless. Lesser berserk
variants are ok on the other hand IMO, but this is a personal preference, I totally
understand and accept that. It's not a UI change though, so perhaps another category;
this suggestion here is primarily about a UI component, e. g. "larger cursor").

For berserk or other gameplay changes just use addon for that.
