So, is "River Dead" available?

I restarted "Harvest" at each of the difficulties. Only on the easiest was there any starting gold (24). The easiest had 13 units, the medium 12, and the hardest 13, all had two spearmen and a bowman. Only medium had the Dwarf, and the hardest had the mayor.

Doesn't seem to be that much difference.

The first time I ever tried updating the "River Dead", the cutscenes fell apart, with animations disappearing. Thus it is only available on 1.16 for now.

Difficulty level differences are rather discrete. There is a difference in captured village count - the harder the level, the less villages are flagged from the start. Also, some of your starting units have different trait combinations depending on chosen difficulty.

Most balancing done around your starting gold and recall roster. It will show when I integrate it - the stronger your start, the stronger the enemy.

Currently I am focused on making new levels. I already invited collaborators before, maybe someone will like to contribute.

Hello,

After a long break comprising 2 jobs, 3 countries and 1 start-up, I was finally able to somewhat stabilize my life and resume work on the campaign.

Behold the promised campaign - multiple storylines with endings. I will keep expanding this campaign - I have plans for at least 5 new scenarios. Thank you for patience with all the silly questions in the WML Development subforum.

As usual - I encourage you to send me replays, suggestions and criticisms. I also invite collaborators if anyone wants to contribute.

I will probably write some notes on the development process later on, after I recover.

Enjoy!

How does one get to "The Grave Escape"?

Hopefully one does not need to be dead.

Hello, WLFobe.
Spoiler:
That said, "The Vampire Strikes Back" is the first on my list to be remade, probably soon. Knowing what I know now, I would write those scripts differently.

Now I'm confused (again).

The two conditions that I see are 1) to have 3 L1 units; or 2) to kill both enemy leaders. And they are not exclusive of each other. Do I have to do one but not the other to go to "The Grave Escape"?

Spoiler:
I wouldn't mind if you let me know how was your experience so far. Did you beat the other plotline yet?

Actually, I stopped at this point and tried to reach the other path. Didn't work, and got sucked into something else. But I'll be back.

And another thing; the River Dead objectives say no early finish bonus but there is 21/turn. Of course, with 19 villages and your starting 2/turn, you make that any way and should just keep the Soulless alive, so you get the XP for all the WC they raise.

This is weird. Please check if the following is present when you open the objectives after surviving the first night.

And in the lower part of your screenshot, it says "NO" early finish bonus

Ok, I see. Thank you WLFobe. I will double check with the forum, as well as the mainline campaigns, to see what is the standard convention for such objective sets, which I assumed was as I did.

So far in my most recent playthrough I have reached the following conclusions:

The River Dead - There are two victory conditions - 1. Promote three units (two if you start with the mayor), and 2. Killing the Soulless leaders. Killing the Soulless is the biggest source of XP.

If you fulfill both victory conditions, you stay in the villages for the next scenario - The Vampire Strikes Back. From there you go into the forest. But if you don't do both conditions in the River Dead you go directly to the forest. Since the Vampire Strikes Back can be handled, you should want to go there to get more experience. Going to the Grave Escape directly probably means using L1 leaders.

On the hardest difficulty, the biggest problem is that the mayor doesn't stick around to do your recruiting while the Veteran does the fighting and gets promoted. Also, there is a dialog problem - the Veteran says, "You two with the pitchforks". Everyone has a pitchfork, including those who go to hide.

Yes. The "Normal" and the "Hardest" difficulties are balanced around the presence/absence of the Dwarven Mayor, your secondary leader. In a sense, these are two alternate universes caused by the difference of one important person. I am designing these scenarios around this feature, as opposed to adding more gold or enemy units.

I was much less invested in balancing the "Easy" level, simply adding extra gold or units and moving on without testing, therefore this one may be not as fine-tuned as the other two difficulties.

I like your analysis. I don't want to spoil anything to you, yet, so just keep me posted about progress.
