Flags of Wesnoth – Orchestral Menu Theme

Post by soundsofnik »

Hi Everyone,

Flags of Wesnoth is an original orchestral soundtrack composed for The Battle for Wesnoth main menu.
Blending moments of rising battle tension with passages of peace and harmony, the piece reflects both the struggles of war and the enduring spirit of the kingdoms of Wesnoth.

Composer: Sounds of Nik
Genre: Orchestral / Medieval
Format: .OGG
Length: 2:30

I’d be happy to hear feedback on how well it fits the atmosphere and identity of Wesnoth.

Regards,
Nimish (Sounds of Nik)

"atmosphere and identity" -- these are both fine for Wesnoth. And all sections of the soundtrack are fine on their own. But as a whole it is too monotone, I got bored by it.

I am not good with music so I can't give you any constructive feedback, sorry.

My preferred outcome for the main menu theme would be to bring back the old one, but I guess if an option is added to select between multiple tracks, this could be a good alternative. The track seems like it would be good for dialogue at the beginning of scenarios, too.

I personally like the track, but I know a lot of Wesnoth players are very traditional in how changes are made in general, and dislike sudden changes.
Looking into the original tracks and maybe making a reprise of those, or something close, might get a bit more support and attention.
Keep up the good work! I think you're the first person in a while I've seen supporting the musical side of Wesnoth!

Well, I would say it's not bad, and it does seem like it would fit in amongst the Wesnoth soundtrack. I don't think it's suitable to replace the main title theme (the original one is too iconic to replace in my opinion – I'm sure there's a reason why the sole time it was ever replaced was with a remix), though including it in the title playlist would be fine. But it could probably for a solemn scene or maybe a travelling scene. It's a little on the, uhh, drab side, perhaps? But that can be okay in a context where you don't want the music to stand out so much.

Thanks ! I appreciate you taking out time and providing feedback on my music. I am Glad you liked the soundtrack. I agree a lot of Wesnoth player would like to stick to the original theme for main menu. Perhaps i could pitch these soundtracks for Dialogues and gameplay screens. I will continue to post more musical and Sound related content for Wesnoth and hope someday it is considered for the selection.

Thanks for checking out my soundtrack. I Agree it could not replace the iconic Main menu theme. I might pitch my future soundtracks for travelling scene or gameplay scenes as fanbase could still enjoy the Original theme but can also get the new soundtrack in the game. I will continue to post more musical compositions and sounds for Wesnoth. Hope my creations are selected in future.
