Art of Unit Rotation
Hey everyone! I’m Skyler, new to the forums but I’ve been playing The Battle for Wesnoth for about a year now, mostly in campaigns and a few online matches. I wanted to share one of my go-to strategies that has saved me countless times, especially in tricky mid-game scenarios. When you’re defending against a strong enemy wave, don’t just fall back blindly; rotate your injured units through villages while keeping a solid defensive line on favorable terrain. For example, in Heir to the Throne, I often use forests or hills as choke points, letting my Elves hold ground during daytime, then swap out wounded units at night when enemies hit harder. While one unit retreats to heal, a fresh one from behind steps up, keeping your frontline solid and XP flowing evenly across your troops. Timing your attacks around the day-night cycle and managing that rotation rhythm is honestly one of the most powerful habits I’ve built. It turns desperate defenses into controlled counterattacks, and that’s where Wesnoth really shines for me.
