Thank you, I played the last mission on Normal. It is now at last doable for me but still very hard and horrendous losses.
Here are the saves:

Re: Chasing the Light — prequel to TRoW 1.18.3+
I watched all your replay and can say that the so-called snowball effect worked here. You lost too many units in S2, skipped S3 with cheats and therefore didn't level up your units, and now in S5 you can't win without cheats, because I counted on at least two lvl2 units when balancing. Also, why didn't you use the Summon spell? It's almost the most useful spell in the entire campaign
Here are my thought about what went wrong in S2:
On your first turn, you put three units under attack with no significant damage potential and low survivability. It would be much better to retreat and save their lives to use them later in order to delay the enemy until the arrival of yours lvl1 units.
On your second turn, you tried to make some kind of defense. The idea is very good, but the problem is that lvl0 units have no ZoC, so they are easy to bypass and destroy. Which is what happened. I would advise you to move a little further away so that as few enemies as possible can approach and attack you. And on the next turn, you would already receive reinforcements.
I am also sending you my replay of this scenario, which I made based on your save file
If you want, I can give you a save file for any scenario with enough leveled-up units

Here are the saves for the Aftermath (Esten) and Miscreants (Mines of Esten) scenarios. I hope you enjoy the story to the end, just don't forget to lower the difficulty!

Chasing the Light 1.0.7 has been released on the add-on server!
The main changes are:

Hello its me your favorite saurian.
For evalutating the replays, I already played in the beta (alpha?) phase till 07_Scarhane. So I bascially kinda know what awaits me.
Additonally I play on default difficluty (Mage, hard) in the addon version 1.0.5, Biased RNG and one mod Unit Stats.
The Book
It was a really tough scenario. This time I didnt "cheat with reload", cause it it doesnt change the outcome (biased RNG)
It was the first time I had to retreat
(I never did that in Wesnoth, so it was a fun learning experience) I got some level ups, sadly not on my veterans, but that is fine. I want some impact-full hitters
leveling those youngsters is really hard.
Invasion
Still a very hard scenario. I like the addition of the trees. It makes the map very lively.
I needed to reload some turns. I don't see, that I can manage this scenario without restarts.
I believe this is the hardest scenario of all the scenarios I know.
Despair
Still one of my favorite scenarios. Light ghost go brrrmmm.
I took my sweet time in the end, cause Zeham wanted to kill a crocodile for a level up.
It also felt nice to use poachers, cause they are kinda fast and dodgy in swampy terrain.
Daeola
I dont have much to say about this scenario. It is a nice testing ground for newer players to learn how the magic system works.
Aftermath
This time the People of Esten didnt get one cent from me.
I also need to say, without helping them it feels a bit harder or I played differently. Anyway, hard scenario, but not unbeatable (suits the campaign difficulty).
I guess poachers would do nicely here, but I wanted to level my light ghost and mudcrawler.
Daeola is also a nice addition in the army, cause I desperately wanted a healer for the first scenarios.

Chasing the Light 1.0.9 has been released on the add-on server!
S2 has been made even easier - if the player doesn't have loyal units from the previous scenario, they receive a non-loyal Thug and Poacher

Hello, Refumee! Thank you very much for playing my campaign again.Refumee wrote: ↑October 10th, 2025, 11:58 am Hello its me your favorite saurian.

I reviewed all your replays and was pleased with how you handled all the challenges.
I was surprised by your strategy in S2: I wouldn't have risked such a defense with a normal RNG. You destroyed the enemy leader in just 10 moves and saved half of the villages, well done!
You did a great job in S3, maybe even too good. But judging by the replay, it was still a tough battle, so I'll leave the difficulty at the same level because, as I said at WMG, the difficulty of this scenario is hard to adjust.
I'm looking forward to seeing your further playthrough and your thoughts on S7 and S8. I hope you enjoy them!

Re: Chasing the Light — prequel to TRoW 1.18.3+
Oh, I didn't realize the option, good to know. Also I managed to fix the bug by myself, I disabled the image mod modification for the General Asa clone, it seems that's the one causing the trouble. Sorry for the late response, was sick for a week.Lexa04 wrote: ↑October 4th, 2025, 1:06 pm > I also feel there are not enough turn limit to complete the achievement Tame the Beast and the scenario, since Haralin has to pick up the book and go all the way back to the start. Maybe Deaola should be able to pick it and give it to Haralin?
In this scenario, any unit can pick up a book, but allies may ask for a fee
> Also, there's a bug in scenario 8, the cutscene gets stuck after the Grand Marshal unit shows up
Can you provide more details and your save file so I can fix it?
Re: Chasing the Light — prequel to TRoW 1.18.3+
I hope you are feeling well now
Thank you for reporting the bug, I will investigate it tonight and fix it.
And did you finish your playthrough? What do you think about the bossfight in terms of difficulty?

Re: Chasing the Light — prequel to TRoW 1.18.3+
I personally find it quite easy, since you just need to move next to all of the Memories, I found using Summon helps a lot since I can use the Water Elemental to slow the Second Soul, since he's the main threat to Haralin. I didn't even bother attacking the Second Soul. Perhaps setting a time limit would make the scenario harder? Like maybe being trapped in Second Soul's realm for too long have adverse effect on Haralin's soul.
Also, I also have this issue with The Deceiver Gambit too, so it seems this is an issue with my laptop, but the game always throws an error for me whenever there's a title that uses size=900000 in the story part.
Re: Chasing the Light — prequel to TRoW 1.18.3+
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll see what I can improve and make a more challenging version of this boss fight in the future.
As for the story part and that bug with the image mod, I can't reproduce either of those bugs. Could you tell me what operating system you're using and provide wesnoth's log file?

I'm using Linux Mint 22.2 and Wesnoth 1.18.5.Lexa04 wrote: ↑October 12th, 2025, 11:14 am Thanks for the suggestion, I'll see what I can improve and make a more challenging version of this boss fight in the future.

I don't know if I can provide any error log, as the game didn't really crash or anything back then, but the weird thing is, when I tried reproducing it just now, (I just commented out the code previously), it works just fine, the cutscene doesn't get stuck anymore. So, I don't know, perhaps it's just a one time glitch.
Re: Chasing the Light — prequel to TRoW 1.18.3+
I see, I had another player who had issues with displaying story text on Linux, so most likely this bug is specific to Linux, so unfortunately there's nothing I can do here
As for the other one, it's really very strange, so I'll wait and see if anyone else has the same problem
