Allied units moving in - and not attacking?

Post by shevegen »

I am currently in a campaign where the enemy boss is a powerful lich.

I already tested: my units take a lot of damage but can kill him.

The problem I have is ... my allies. They move in and usually suicide on the lich.

This is quite annoying as it is (also happens by enemy boss units where the just suicide-run
in by the way), but there is an even more annoying thing:

The allied units move in close ... and then do nothing other than stare at the lich in pure awe.

The problem with this is simple: they block my own units from going in and dealing damage.

There is a little bit of value in moving in, in that you also block the enemies' units from advancing.
But this AI behaviour makes it harder for me to win the scenario, because the only way I have to
win, is by either blocking off those allied units, or making them die. Both which is a bit weird - that
should not be an objective.

Is there a way to change this "move in and do nothing" behaviour?

If it is too difficult to improve the AI, could we get some more options in the advanced setting to
control this behaviour? That way I could disable it at the least for the current scenario, if such
an option were to exist in the advanced settings menu. (Controlling this via some menu-options would
perhaps be the simplest change, as I guess rewriting the core AI part may take longer than having
options for mere toggle-switches.)

I am having the same issue, but in reverse: the IA is moving close to me, but not attacking. Surely because it believes it will "lose" too much by attacking me, as my units are much stronger. However, this trivializes some surviving scenarios, such as the third one from the South Guard.
