End of the Golden Age

I'm thinking of writing another campaign (my third), and want to do a big time jump from my previous campaigns. One fairly unknown time period is the end of the golden era of Wesnoth. I have an idea regarding how the king dies (not peacefully), and building in a few elements from the newer campaigns lore-wise. The timeline doesn't give much at all about this other than the king died and afterwards orcs were more aggressive and there were civil wars. Is anything else known lore-wise regarding the end of the first dynasty of Wesnoth I should be aware of?
