Ok, sounds like a plan. I've revised the original post (starting off with 5 self-damage; we'll see how that feels in testing).

I've also renamed "Naval Ram" to "Aquatic", and renamed "Immolate" to "Deteriorate". These abilities have really restrictive mechanics, so we may as well let their names be a little more versatile.

To help test these WIP changes, I've uploaded an add-on to the 1.19 server: "1.20 Ships for Mainline". Units, stats, and abilities should be fully-functional (though the Ghost Ship is missing its eerie fog).

Should fire ship be unhealable? How does "deteriorate" interact with healing?

At the moment, the addon has the special as "This unit is deteriorating. It cannot be healed, and loses 5 hitpoints at the start of each of its turns."

I got a question. Does the addon support AI?
Do we know if more ships are added?

If we get both. Could I add it to Palms amid Blue Dunes?

Not sure it it works in 1.18 or not; I originally only uploaded it to 1.19. https://addons.wesnoth.org/1.19/

Eventually, Doofus will be finishing the artwork for these ships, and will work on adding them to mainline. At that point I'll propose the stats from this addon, including the transport ability (which I'll need to rewrite in lua). Transport may get added to core or may not, depending on how popular/unpopular it is.

Here's Doofus's draft PR with his plans: https://github.com/wesnoth/wesnoth/pull/9683

I tried to add those ship to PaBD, but the ship count is a bit low right now.
Sure I can adjust the ships a bit, but I need orc ships and low level ships.

Sorry I've been slow on new ships and other things I need to give feedback on, I think I'll be back any week now. I got a couple first drafts for some elf and orc ships. Not much done yet, but it's at least a potential avenue or two.

Elf ships look nice!

Orc ships... the top-left one (I assume higher level) ship with the catapult seems to have a smaller sail than the lower-level orc ship variant, right now it doesn't quite look like the bigger orc ship's sail is enough to move the ship at a reasonable speed.

In my opinion, it might be a good idea to either add more sails, or to increase the size of the existing sail, as there's a lot of empty space under the current sail:

The elvish ships look nice. I am unsure why they are so green.

The orcish ships remind me a bit on japanese ships. Maybe we can take some inspiration from it? Like more paddles, less sails and more focussed on entering enemy ships?

I can see those elven ships making a significant appearance in Saving Elensefar UMC (assuming it's still in active development)
