Re: Survey Results!
Well I can make more but doing them often would probably tire people once or twice per version seems solid tho.
I actually agree. Being exemplary doesnt mean it cant be better. Even UtBS is plagued with issues, there are units that need changes (Sun Sylph, Ranger), there are AMLAs (mostly Kaleh) that could be far better than they are right now, Variable Recall Costs are actually also far from perfection and have some (solvable) issues. Scenarios also have some faults that should be addressed (like S4 for example or final scenario).

Re: Survey Results!
I suspect most of us concerned about privacy are not at all worried about it vis a vis the Wesnoth Community but rather the "big evil megacorps" like Google. Using their tools means they have collected whatever they could about anyone who did that survey (or even visited the page like I did). What they gather of course depends massively on how each user is set up. Those with Google accounts who have voluntarily provided google with their names, addresses, phone numbers, place of work, etc. are of course one case (and likely don't give a hoot). Others with tons of security set up will have exposed much less to what they see as "the enemy" (google in this instance).Hejnewar wrote: ↑September 29th, 2024, 8:44 amMaybe, but nothing except nicknames was gathered by us and I think when it comes to alts everywhere else including forus there would be more of them.My only concern is that this sets a precedent for Google Forms surveys. I hear that some people are concerned about privacy, so I don't think this should be the standard. :hmm: However, I think the results are positive. First of all, thanks.
One thing though not related to privacy: Some posters claimed this was a "more" accurate survey as a result. Well probably more so than a forum poll would have been, I agree but as with all polls it has a bias in that it did restrict takers to that subset of people who have google accounts. A large subset I suspect but it did filter out potential takers.

Re: Survey Results!
I do not usually write opinions on the forum but I will do for once.
I think this survey was a good idea, and I would actually like to see more in the future.
I would like to thank Hej for makingit, bc he was in no way obliged to. Maybe he thought the results would be more in his favor, but he took the risk nonetheless, and it should be noted.
While I do not always agree with Hej ideas, and in particular stances, I have also agreed several times with changes he proposed.
Now coming back to doing more surveys, I agree with a lot of people here that a Google survey is not the best way, mainly for privacy reasons.
We have here a good tool to make surveys on the forum, although limited to one question, but I think we do not need to make surveys like this, with several questions, that often. Sure, it would not prevent alt account, although it is easier to detect them here (brand new accounts, 0 posts, identical IP for multiple accounts, etc.). They could as easily be advertised than a Google survey and would not require more than registering to the forum wrt registering to Google.
For example, for balance changes, a survey could have been made in the relevant post, that would have corresponded to question 9 ("Which of the following changes do you agree with?") with an additional question that would be "Have you voted" to get the total number of votes.
I would really look forward seeing more surveys on this forum. This is not to mean that devs would have to follow the results of the survey, but it would allow them to get the feedback from a biggest portion of the community than only the Discord/forum/Reddit/YT community, as was shown by this survey.

Re: Survey Results!
In my case at least, it's entirely the latter. IMO it'd be nice to improve Wesnoth's debugging utilities so that when a campaign receives changes, there'd be a nice simple button I could click to just play the changed parts, rather than having to replay the entire thing. Like, it'd get the diff from the previous version, and then load the first scenario with actual changes or something...Lord-Knightmare wrote: ↑September 29th, 2024, 6:31 am For one who is keen on assessing the quality of the current set of mainline campaigns, seeing "I haven't played it recently" being the key segment brings to question to whether "I have not played it recently because I know it's always gonna be disappointing" or "I have not played it recently because I just have not had time to do so, or didn't feel like it."
