Problems with saurian skirmisher line
Saurian skirmishers are males but in the newest versions (at least in polish translations) are considered as females, why?

Saurian Augur line is male and Saurian Skirmisher line is female.

I think it's not very good solution since almost all saurian skirmisher line we meet are males

Re: Problems with saurian skirmisher line
Then isn't that just an error in the translation? I don't think considering the skirmishers to be female is anything new. It's been around for quite some time.

In Son of the Black-Eye, Inarix was male before Wesnoth 1.16.Celtic_Minstrel wrote: ↑August 16th, 2023, 5:42 pm Then isn't that just an error in the translation? I don't think considering the skirmishers to be female is anything new. It's been around for quite some time.

Re: Problems with saurian skirmisher line
That commit doesn't indicate that Inarix was male though. Rather, it indicates someone noticed that a character referred to her using the wrong pronoun.
Re: Problems with saurian skirmisher line
Well, the commit which actually changed the Saurian units themselves was made only a couple of years before that (but was still not in any stable release before 1.16).Celtic_Minstrel wrote: ↑August 16th, 2023, 11:49 pm That commit doesn't indicate that Inarix was male though. My point is - in Wesnoth 1.14 and earlier, Inarix was male.

Re: Problems with saurian skirmisher line
That's a commit that made mechanics match lore. But how long has the lore about the saurian gender divide been around? I wouldn't be surprised if it dates back much further than 1.14, and if that's true, you can't really argue that Inarix was definitely male in 1.14. At best you can say their gender was ambiguous back then.
Re: Problems with saurian skirmisher line
The lore has been discussed on the forums a number of times over the years - I think the earliest topic which talked about saurian gender was in 2009. One of the participants in the discussion edited the wiki to include the saurian gender lore.Celtic_Minstrel wrote: ↑August 17th, 2023, 6:44 am That's a commit that made mechanics match lore. But Son of the Black-Eye was written long before that, and it was not changed to match the description in the wiki until version 1.16.

Re: Problems with saurian skirmisher line
Not only Inarix but also other saurian leaders in mainline and not only campanings were definitely considered as males. Now it makes some confusions in story.

Re: Problems with saurian skirmisher line
It is possible that the change has not yet made its way into all texts and translations. But all the newer saurian skirmisher characters are definitely female (Arinexis in WoF for example).
