Assertion error in map editor

This is my first time ever participating in a forum, but anyway. I am having a strange error I hadn't had in previous versions of the game. With no add ons currently installed. I attempt to place a unit in the scenario editor, regardless of unit type, it gives me an Assertion Error and then crashes.

The error I received is:

Expression resources::gameboard

(I have reinstalled the game, verified file integrity, reinstalled MC Visual and deleted config files in documents. I am not sure what is causing this.

System Information:

Microsoft Windows 10 Version 21H2 (OS Build 19044.2486)
Wesnoth version 1.16.7

Steps to replicate problem:

1.Launch game
2. Enter Map Editor
2. New Scenario
3. Place Unit
