Changes in this release

Read on for more details about the most notable fixes and additions since the previous stable release. A full list of changes may be found in our changelog.
General
  • Multiplayer server crashes
When 1.16.0 was released there were frequent crashes of the official multiplayer server. These have, for the most part, all been resolved and the online experience is now much more stable.
  • Windows LAN doesn't start
When 1.16.0 was released there were some newly required dll files missing from the update which resulted in the local LAN server not being able to start on Windows. These files are now present and LAN should now work again.
  • Removing a team during setup causing a UI error
When entirely removing a team from a game during game setup it could cause an error stating that the "Mandatory widget 'leader_image' hasn't been defined" and then crash back to the main menu. This has been fixed.
  • Username autocomplete in multiplayer crashes game
With 1.16.0 using tab to autocomplete a player's name in the lobby chat did not work at all, and when doing it in a private chat with another player it caused the game to crash. This has been fixed and autocomplete is now functional again.
Known Issues
General issues:
  • OneDrive can interfere with Wesnoth’s user config/data directory set-up, leading to all kinds of different manifestations of the issue. There’s no fix available yet. The recommendation for the time being is to avoid syncing the Wesnoth user directory with OneDrive.
General issues:
  • Preprocessor errors corrupt cache (issue #1924). If this happens you have to wipe your cache. That can be done in Preferences → Cache.
If you find any bugs, do not hesitate to report them, but please read the instructions on how to report bugs first! As bug reports in the forums tend to be forgotten, you will get better results using our bug tracker. We require your help for finding and fixing issues, no matter how obvious, trivial, or complicated they seem!

Have fun!

The flatpak download still reports 1.16.0 on the main game screen. Anyway I can find out the version other than the main screen?

The game reports the correct version. If it says 1.16.0, then you're still using 1.16.0.

On the wiki Download page, the links to the SHA256 checksum files for the Windows version are broken.

Code: Select all

https://files.wesnoth.org/releases/wesnoth-1.16.1-win64exe.sha256
https://files.wesnoth.org/releases/wesnoth-1.16.0-win64exe.sha256
They should be

Code: Select all

https://files.wesnoth.org/releases/wesnoth-1.16.1-win64.exe.sha256
https://files.wesnoth.org/releases/wesnoth-1.16.0-win64.exe.sha256
(This is only for the 1.16.x releases - the links for the old 1.15.x releases are working.)

Recognized bugs in V1.16.1 regarding language:

- Story text in german language (when game language setting is German) are sometimes shown in english language on some pages.

- Even the topics from the main menue are partially mixed (german/english)

So far so good. Wesnoth is simply awesome.

Probably due to the translations still being updated even now.

Why are both 1.16.0 and 1.16.1 called Current Version on the downloads page?

It's just been the practice since forever is to list the current and previous versions there.

But the previous version used to be labelled "Previous Version". Compare the Wayback Machine snapshots from August 9, 2020 and September 18, 2020.

Ah, whoops. Looks like a copy/paste error, which I've now fixed. Thanks.

The source code compiles but i get (only) 3 warnings :
Spoiler:
i have libboost-all-dev 1.74

It also says
Unable to find source files for: mariadbpp
just after the config check and before starting the compile.

All in all that seems pretty clean :)

The three warnings unfortunately seem to come from within Boost itself, so there isn't really anything we can do about them.

For mariadbpp, it's included as a submodule, so you need to make sure you pull that in as well.

I downloaded the source tarball and the folder src/modules/mariadbpp is empty - is the tarball incomplete?
Ah i see the submodule discussed in the Git areas. I guess this new dependency could be documented in the compiling instructions, though apparently it isnt necessary.
