Re: [POLL] What Operating Systems do you use Wesnoth on?
do you have it working on an actual Unix(TM) operating system?

Steam ought to be its own category, not a sub of Linux.

SteamOS (not Steam, the software), is based on Debian, which is Linux.

Ah i see, i just installed Steam on my Linux box and am getting used to it. Wouldnt it be useful to get some idea how many are using the Steam layer?

Steam itself keeps track of that sort of information, so there isn't really a need to have our own poll for it.

well not everyone uses steam, in particular there are plattforms like mobile, that steam does not support, but even if not it's still interesting to see whether there is a differnt between steam users and forum users

Scenario with Robots SP scenario (1.11/1.12), allows you to build your units with components, PYR No preperation turn 1.12 mp-mod that allows you to select your units immideately after the game begins.

It'd still be more accurate to compare the Steam download count vs the sum of the non-Steam download methods, I'd guess.

That would not work either so I agree with gfgtdf.
Of course a poll is also biased, since many people won't participate. But I have never used steam and never will, so I would
never be included in these trackings, so the steam variant is ALSO biased.
IMO there is nothing wrong with gaining as much information as possible including such voluntary polls.
If we don't analyze the above dataset in detail, windows seems to be the most common user base, followed by linux, followed by mac.
It would be interesting to compare this with the data from steam and see whether there is a big difference.
Note that I am not entirely sure how you can determine the OS through non-steam downloads. How do you track of
the OS? Is wget and curl required to pass that information? I in general never send any information outside to any
external party due to privacy concerns (I don't use chromium or firefox either for browsing).

Re: [POLL] What Operating Systems do you use Wesnoth on?
the new counter in the next version should reduce some of the uncertainty

How? It will only capture data on those who play MP and completely miss those of us who SP only.
I forked real life and now I'm getting merge conflicts.
Re: [POLL] What Operating Systems do you use Wesnoth on?
I saw yesterday an interesting statistic.
https://knal.ga has a list of trending campaigns.
What I see from it: 1.12 is not dead, with around 1/3 or 1/4 of the download numbers.

Try out the dark board theme.
Re: [POLL] What Operating Systems do you use Wesnoth on?
Note that the statistics might not be showing exactly that since it only shows the trend (the difference between the last week and the previous week), not the raw download numbers. Though, I guess I could add a column that shows the actual number of downloads.Shiki wrote: ↑December 5th, 2019, 5:30 pm I saw yesterday an interesting statistic.

And add a date/time stamp, too?

Re: [POLL] What Operating Systems do you use Wesnoth on?
I didn't see one on the trends page. Maybe I missed it.
Total downloads are interesting but don't really mean much for comparisons since the start date varies wildely.
I'd probably store the numbers and offer a drill-down feature, or a checklist selecting which addons to show, and graph the results over time. Not that I'd use it much for anything other than grinz.

I'll probably show the most downloaded addons during the last week.Tad_Carlucci wrote: ↑December 5th, 2019, 11:56 pm I didn't see one on the trends page. Maybe I missed it.

Graphs is actually a feature I've had on my to-do list for a while - I have to learn how D3 works.Tad_Carlucci wrote: ↑December 5th, 2019, 11:56 pm I'd probably store the numbers and offer a drill-down feature, or a checklist selecting which addons to show, and graph the results over time.
