Various bugs with new steam install.

When starting the game I get this message before the title screen.

Error validating data core.

Details:

Core ID: default
The ID is already in use.
Skipping the core.

I had a previous install of BFW and uninstalled it from control panel before installing steam's version. Additionally, when I install add-ons or change my preferences, the files are placed straight into the drive. E.g: W:\preferences instead of installing the files properly. This also means that add-ons will not run.
Any ideas?

Do you sync your Documents folder with OneDrive?

I don't think they sync so much save to a different one of the documents folders either in the hard drive or cloud each time. Though yes that might be it. Anything I can do to fix?

We've heard similar issues from other players, but we don't have a fix yet The only think that seems to work is not syncing Documents with OneDrive, I think.

I had this problem to, i solved mine by going into Onedrive/Documents/My Games and then making a new folder named "Wesnoth1.14". I don't know if this is for sure solution but it worked for me so i decided to put it here.
