Error on 1.14?
I got this error after installing 1.14 from Steam on my Win10 computer. It appears whenever the game loads.
It also seems to prevent me from installing addons properly - when I attempt to install any addon, it seems to download the addon files into the C: Drive instead.

Could you check these instructions and post your game log?

Here's the log file. It was in Appdata/Local/Temp instead of the userdata folder (which didn't exist).

Someone in the Finnish Discord channel reported the same error.

Transfermium: I have created a special build that reports additional information about what's going wrong. Are you willing to run it to help us investigate the problem?
- Find and open your steamapps\common directory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJaG33aCPHk
- Go to Battle for Wesnoth inside that directory.
- Download the special build and extract it to that directory, overwriting wesnoth.exe and the other files.
- Double-click wesnoth.exe. It will show an error message, then exit. Tell us what the error message says.
- To be able to play Wesnoth again afterwards, open Steam -> Library -> Games -> right-click Battle for Wesnoth -> Properties -> Local files -> Verify integrity of game files.

Re: Error on 1.14?
I have the same issue. Seems like the pathing is all mixed up, when I download it the installer doesn't create the Wesnoth1.14 folder for me. When I make the folders myself it doesn't path to them.
Clean install:
With folders prior to installation:
Is there anyway to change file paths?
Hope this helps anyway.

Re: Error on 1.14?
As a matter of fact, yes.
We’re still researching this but we suspect that OneDrive might be involved since it’s confirmed to be in control of the Documents dir in at least two cases of this issue. One thing you can do is set Wesnoth to use a different path for user config and data by editing the start menu shortcut/Steam launch options (in Properties).
Steam:
--config-dir "C:\Path\To\Somewhere\Else"
Not Steam:
"C:\Path\To\Wesnoth.exe" --config-dir "C:\Path\To\Somewhere\Else"
(Note the placement of the quotes, it’s important in both cases.)
The installer doesn’t create the user folders because normally Wesnoth should be able to create them by itself on startup.

Re: Error on 1.14?
I've got a friend with this problem, and can confirm that OneDrive is in control of the Documents dir in his case
Re: Error on 1.14?
I uninstalled OneDrive for a test and it's now working, so it was definitely that. Thanks for the info.

Yup, just disabled OneDrive and the userdata files are working now. Thanks!
