Looking for help on where to start a campaign
Not such an original topic subject but couldn't think of a better way to get the info for which I'm looking. I've been thinking a lot lately about learning how to code and either creating my own scenario/campaign or to help in other ways. I've never been the most creative guy so coming up with a story or plot has its own challenges so what I'm trying to find out is about either abandoned or incomplete campaigns. I've seen links that take you to a forum discussion but it seems to be a bit outdated. Is there anyone who can point me in the right direction? Should I just browse through add-ons and if they seem abandoned contact the original author? Or does anyone have an idea for a story but not the time to put into coding it? I have quite a bit of free time and I love learning and challenges. I know the basics of programming although not with WML. But the structure of the language is familiar to me. anyway, any comments please feel free to let me hear them.
Re: Looking for help on where to start a campaign
Well I suppose there's any number of ways to get started. The sticky topics in this forum have some help along the lines of what you asked:

http://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=17171
I found on the wesnoth wiki today a WIP WML tutorial aimed at complete beginners. It is not finished so I'm not sure if artisticdude, who seems to be actively working on it, would appreciate me sending a link. But if he's alright with it and you think it might help you then I imagine he would appreciate feedback.
Other than that there's also the Create pages on the wiki:
http://wiki.wesnoth.org/StartingPoints
http://wiki.wesnoth.org/Create
We are specifically in the process of cleaning up the wiki right now... if you are having trouble finding info or have other complaints it would be pretty timely actually

Re: Looking for help on where to start a campaign
Those were the links I read through earlier and it doesn't really point in the right direction for what I wanted. But reading through some more posts about the wiki clean-up I found a category that fits perfectly - WML for complete beginner's. I'll be goofing around with that for awhile and then maybe come up with a story-line or find someone who already has an idea but not the time to code.

As usual, I recommend A simple Campaign (see signature), a skeleton of a campaign.
The point is that that is something which works out of the box, and it's very effective to maintain for me/us (as opposed to any wiki pages)

projects (BfW 1.12):
A Simple Campaign: campaign draft for wml starters • Plan Your Advancements: mp mod
The Earth's Gut: sp campaign • Settlers of Wesnoth: mp scenario • Wesnoth Lua Pack: lua tags and utils
updated to 1.8 and handed over: A Gryphon's Tale: sp campaign
