[STATUS] Wesnoth.org migration complete

Post by Iris »

Hi there!

As announced, Wesnoth.org is now on a new host (‘baldras’). The old host (‘asheviere’) will continue to be around for some time, and some folks might still be connecting to it for a little while due to DNS propagation delays for some ISPs.

‘asheviere’ has served us for all these years since the Great Crash of 2008. Being a rather old piece of hardware, it simply could not serve our needs in an optimal fashion anymore. Today’s migration really should have been done much sooner, but our system administrators have been too busy with other things—such as their own jobs and lives—for a while. Because of this, I had been working non-stop on preparing the operation for the past month or so, behind the scenes, even while ‘asheviere’ would be afflicted by ISP-level network connectivity problems.

The migration is now mostly complete. units.wesnoth.org is currently 404ing because of a software bug and a coordination issue. I hope to be able to copy the data from the old server soon after a few more tasks are finished, but it may take a few more hours. EDIT 2013-10-15: This is now complete as well.

Please note that in the process, the software running the Wesnoth.org wiki was upgraded. If you spot any glaring issues with it, make sure to notify us in the Website forum section as soon as possible.

You will soon see instructions in the front-page (both on the new server and the old one) for the desperate people amongst us who need immediate access to the new and upgraded services.
You may discuss this announcement in this new thread in Off-Topic.
