List of Unported UMC (October 2012)
Now that 1.10 has been out for a couple of months, it's a good time to take stock of what UMC remains to be ported. I've drawn up a list of (single-player) campaigns that have not yet been ported. And my attachment includes HTML files that list all unported add-ons of every type (as of early October), with all the standard details (descriptions, downloads, uploads, dates, etc.), and some extras.
Note that this only purports to be a list of unported, not necessarily abandoned, campaigns. 1.8 developers in particular may still straggle in with their own ports (as in my own case). As always, please try to contact the original author (or last maintainer) before starting a port.
Now, some of these add-ons have not been ported because they never got very far along. So I've included some metrics of author progress.
EDIT: Entries have been crossed out to reflect new ports up to early October. My attachment has also been updated.
EDIT: I now include some era and faction add-ons that include sample campaigns.
EDIT: I've refactored and expanded the section on the accuracy of this list.
EDIT: Added Restoration (with archive.org link) and Survival to 1.0 section.
What's in my attachment?
Note that this only purports to be a list of unported, not necessarily abandoned, campaigns. 1.8 developers in particular may still straggle in with their own ports (as in my own case). As always, please try to contact the original author (or last maintainer) before starting a port.
Now, some of these add-ons have not been ported because they never got very far along. So I've included some metrics of author progress.
- An estimated count of scenario files. (It is based on the number of files with the [/scenario] closing tag in the add-on, with some filters to cut out backup and duplicative files.) While it does not show whether an author completed his campaign, it may indicate how much effort the author invested in it. (Be aware that this is not intended to measure the number of scenarios actually played, as there may be branching or looping storylines, nor does this distinguish between battles and cutscenes.)
- The number of uploads recorded by the server. Many uploads could indicate an active developer. However, this is a very rough metric, as it favors "release early, release often" designers. Others like to finish their cathedrals first, or not use players as alpha testers. Also, it only shows uploads for that Wesnoth version, so it is misleading when it comes to campaigns that originated on an earlier Wesnoth release.
- Any releases for prior Wesnoth versions. Not only does this alert you that the upload count is misleading, porting a campaign through multiple versions is an indicator of persistent effort. (But it could also mean that the author will eventually port it on his own!)
EDIT: Entries have been crossed out to reflect new ports up to early October. My attachment has also been updated.

Unported 1.8 Campaigns
Unported 1.6 Campaigns
Unported 1.5 Campaigns
Unported 1.4 Campaigns
Unported 1.2 Campaigns
Unported 1.0 Campaigns
How accurate and complete is this list?
- HTML files that list all unported add-ons of all types, based on the lists available from addons.wesnoth.org. I've enhanced these with my estimated scenario count and noted which past Wesnoth versions also had releases. (The scenario count does not work for MP campaigns, because they don't use the [scenario] tag.)
- Script used to hack together these lists.
- My new August version now adds a list of the current add-ons (1.9/1.10, /trunk) with the scenario and version counts, as I thought some people might be interested in this information for current UMC.
- I also include a list I am drawing up of lost UMC that used to be on the old wolff.to server.
- My October version adds a list of add-ons that have been deleted from the server, based on past listings saved by archive.org and myself.
- December is a bit of a half-baked update, as I rushed to get it done before a Wesbreak. The past version tracking is a bit buggy with 1.11 add-ons, scenario count not included for latest campaigns. But I finally remembered to include my file that keeps track of renamings.

I don't know about ports and necessary changes, but Count Kromire actually works when copied to your 1.10 add-on folder. Velensk was explicitly looking for a maintainer earlier though.

and loaded it up to the 1.10 Server.
Please remove it from your list.

Re: List of Unported UMC
I didn't know anyone kept track of those things. I have been intending to port my campaign to a current version of Wesnoth, but I also want to add another piece of the storyline (for those of you who have tried it out, you know that it has an abrupt ending). If someone is intending to port it to a current version, I would greatly like to be contacted first (the chances are slim that anyone will want to port it, but just in case). I do check my PMs regularly.Groggy_Dice wrote:Seven Stones--and Eleven Efinari up:1 sc:7 1.6
P.S: This applies to all campaigns that have an author of 'Efinari'.

Re: List of Unported UMC
I'm not manually "keeping track" of this data. The name of the add-on, the name of the author, and the number of uploads are already recorded. To get the scenario count, I had to download all the add-ons I thought were single-player campaigns, and grep them for the [/scenario] tag. I inserted that count into the HTML listing, in the notes column that is normally used to list translations. Another part of my script searched for instances of the same filename for earlier Wesnoth versions, and added it to the notes section. Then I could use sed on the table row to format that data for the forum (though actually that part of my script is screwed up). If you download the attachment, it includes the script I used.Efinari wrote:I didn't know anyone kept track of those things.Groggy_Dice wrote:Seven Stones--and Eleven Efinari up:1 sc:7 1.6
As an example, this is the part that of the script that deals with the scenario estimate.
Code: Select all
for UMC in $(find files.wesnoth.org -maxdepth 3 -type d | sed 's;files.wesnoth.org/addons/\?;;' | grep / | sort) ; do SCEN=$(find files.wesnoth.org/addons/$UMC | grep -v "/translations/" | grep -v /backup | grep -v cfg\.ba[ck] | grep -vi autosave | grep -vi "unused/" | grep -v cfg-example | grep -v "cfg.*~" | grep -v Castles_and_Knights/scenarios/[^01] | grep -v Prudence/scenarios/x | sort | xargs -d \\n grep -H "\[/scenario\]" | grep -c "\[/scenario\]") ; sed "\@$UMC.tar.bz2@s;\(<[bt][rd]/\?>\)\([^>]*</td>[^>]*</tr>\);\1scenarios: $SCEN<br/>\v\2;" -i.bak *unport*.html ; done
Code: Select all
## This outputs a list, formatted for the forum, of the campaign add-ons. It is commented out because it depends on having run the previously commented-out scenario command.
#grep ">scenarios: [1-9]" allunported.html | grep -v "<td>MP era<" | sed 's/<[0-9,]\+>//' | sed 's/\xc9/…/' | sed 's;.*class="desc"><b>\([^<]\+\)</b>.*<br/>\vAuthor: \([^<]\+\).*<a href=\([^>]\+\).*<br/>\v\([0-9a-z]*\) up.*<td>\([0-9., ]*\)[<br/>]*scenarios: \([0-9]\+\).*;[url=\3]\1[/url]\t\2\tup:\4 sc:\6 \5;' | sed 's;.*class="desc"><b>\([^<]\+\)</b>.*<br/>\vAuthor: \([^<]\+\).*<a href=\([^>]\+\).*<td>scenarios: \([0-9]\+\).*;[url=\3]\1[/url]\t\2\tup:N/A sc:\4 ;' | sed 's/up:[0-9] /& /' | sed 's/]/&\//' | sort -k 5,5r -k 7 -t / | sed 's;]/;];' >forum
## Now that we are done with our files, we can convert the vertical tabs back to newlines.
sed 's/\v/\n/g' -i.bak *table.html *unported*.html
to get decent results. (In retrospect, I'd also switch the scenario and upload counts. done) I'd prefer to use a table, but BBCode doesn't seem to offer that.
And the last line should be *unport*.html, not *unported*.html

Re: List of Unported UMC
Hey, my campaign "A Story of the Northlands" has been ported to 1.10 and is now on the addons server.
Re: List of Unported UMC (August 2012)
Hi, could you please separate the SP campaigns from the MP campaigns? I'm only interested in the latter. I played MP quite a bit in the 1.8 days with another group and I can't recall the names of many of the MP scenarios and campaigns we tried out... and I'd like to port some of them to 1.10 so I can play them with my new group (my clan from another TBS)!
Also, this lists just campaigns, not scenarios (or any other UMC like map packs), which most MP players play. So the title "List of Unported UMC" is inaccurate.

Re: List of Unported UMC (August 2012)
converting this to one or more wiki pages would allow others to edit the lists...

Re: List of Unported UMC (August 2012)
Actually, this list on the forum only lists single-player campaigns. (There may be a couple of add-ons with dual SP/MP modes.) So, in that sense, they've already been "separated."Evropi wrote:Hi, could you please separate the SP campaigns from the MP campaigns? I'm only interested in the latter. [...]
Well, those who are interested in other types of UMC can download my attachment, which covers ALL types of add-ons, not just SP campaigns. If I'd stuffed everything into the forum list, the post would be even larger than it already is.Also, this lists just campaigns, not scenarios (or any other UMC like map packs), which most MP players play. So the title "List of Unported UMC" is inaccurate.
(Since you're interested in MP campaigns, I have to tell you that unfortunately the scenario count is broken for them. My grep was relying on the [/scenario] tag, and MP uses [multiplayer]. I'm trying to think of solutions that will work for MP. The next_scenario key appears in most scenarios, but some last scenarios don't include it. A real programmer, of course, would probably skip my crude regex, instead following the chain of scenarios, incrementing the count by one each time.)
Though, if you're not in any rush, I plan to put out an updated attachment in about a week, so you can hold off on downloading the current one...
This update will also add a list of add-ons that have been deleted from the server.
I've never gotten a wiki account. From time to time, I've seen things I'd like to change or add, but never enough to make me go through the hassle of creating an account and then logging in to my e-mail account for the confirmation mail and then having to log in to the wiki even if I was already logged in on the forum... I wish there was single sign-on, like there is between the forum and the MP server. Given the obvious attraction, I figured that the administrators must consider the technical hurdles to be more trouble than they're worth. Shadowmaster basically confirmed that, when someone else brought up single sign-on.Max wrote:converting this to one or more wiki pages would allow others to edit the lists...
Anyway... Your idea is probably moot, as the deletions of http://wiki.wesnoth.org/Abandoned_Campaigns ("Policy change: We're leaving UMC tracking to the forums.") and http://wiki.wesnoth.org/Status_of_User_Scenarios ("Policy decision: we're not going to try to track these on the wiki any more.") indicate that there is a policy against any such wiki pages. Presumably, you would have to make the case for reversing this policy, in whatever forum it was that this policy decision was reached.
But I'll be discussing the advantages and disadvantages of converting to the wiki format later.

could you add a link to recommendations for getting started porting add-ons or becoming maintainers? should people sign up on the UMC-Dev website or what

Re: List of Unported UMC (October 2012)
Yes, every month or two I do a full update of my lists, and in the meantime I keep watch on new add-ons and cross out ports. I plan to make an update sometime before Thanksgiving, then go on break through the holidays.Lord-Knightmare wrote:Is this active? I have ported Forward they Cried to the 1.10 server. Incidentally, I don't certify in any way that ports are complete, tested, or bug-free. For a couple of the unported add-ons, I mention bugs that I know about to help potential porters avoid or fix them.
UMC-Dev first: there's no requirement that porters sign up for umc-dev, and most probably don't. Whether you do or not is up to you. If you're just looking for versioning/backup, some people set up a github repository instead (or in addition to). In fact, I'm asking right now about the pros and cons of umc-dev and github in a topic I started.tr0ll wrote:could you add a link to recommendations for getting started porting add-ons or becoming maintainers? should people sign up on the UMC-Dev website or what
As for links, unfortunately I don't think there really are any resources aimed at porters specifically. I am working on such a how-to, but it's proving to be a more ambitious undertaking than I had thought. As for the documentation, the key thing is to learn how to run wmllint, then wmlscope. Then you'd refer to the WML documentation for any remaining bugs. There are forum threads tracking the syntax changes between versions, like http://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=21518, http://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=27760, http://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=32451, and http://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=33321.
If I knew which add-on(s) you were interested in porting, I might be able to offer more specific advice.

I have ported Great Race to 1.10, but it's only on the forums, and not on the server. Should I upload it or try to contact the author?
