Re: Perseo's tryes (elvish legend-breaker & portrait)
So after a time of not doing anything related to 72x72 art I have started a sprite for an herborist. This is what I hae done and I want you to explain why her skirt looks to steepy and how can I fix it.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Perseo's tryes (Can this portrait be painted?)
Well, I did a fast sketch for a cavalry unit portrait and I have scanned it but now I dunno even if the quality is enough for painting it at the pc or how can I do it. In fact I was thinking on colouring it normal paint sticks (since I don't control the amazing world of the brush and other technics) and then scanning it again but I don't know how the result will be. Shorting up: What do you think about the image? How can I make it's borders more defined without trying to repass them with the mouse? (I've tryed it several times and its impossible for me) BTW I've readen kitty's portrait tutorial.
Thanks!
I forgot it: I don't have a tablet and due to my low purchasing power I'm not going to have it in a near future.

Hi. Do you use GIMP? If so, you can give a try at level curves. For this, try Colors -> Levels from the file menu.
There, you'll see a graph called Input levels. Give your attention to the bar with triangular marks. As you'll notice
you can slide those marks. Play with them. Usually, if I want to bypass the inking stage, I will first draw the left
and right sliders closer to centre (less than a mark), then do some further adjustments with the central one.
If you are using photoshop, here's a some sort of tutorial: http://www.remindblog.com/2010/02/18/in ... hic-novel/.
The tool he's using is extremely similar to the tool I tried to describe for GIMP by the way, so you should check it out
anyway . Once you follow those steps, just keep your image on multiply mode, adding color layers under it as
transparency, as well as a white or whatever colored background layer (think of this one as blank physical page).
To summarize, this will give the image an ink'ed look, and you will increase the definition for those fuzzy lines closer to the edges.
hope this helps.

Re: Perseo's tryes (Can this portrait be painted?)
Well, afer deciding that I'm not experienced enough at drawing for starting colouring I have worked again on spriting. I think the result is somehow better than the previous ones but I want you to have a look at it and comment something to help me finishing it. I'm not very sure with the body position but after drawing it in normal size I think it can work. Mainly, the right limbs are not finished yet they're only rough shaded in order to understand the position.

Re: Perseo's tryes (Can this portrait be painted?)
I think it is better to bend under the front leg. The tibia in the vertical or less bent.
The arm holding the stick seems short. I suggest to bend it a little.

Re: Perseo's tryes (Can this portrait be painted?)
I've corrected the leg, and make some necesary changes in the hair. BTW If you'd had to make an unit with this sprite: What level would it be? I don't know if I have to make a more complex version for the next level or a more simple version previous level. (There should be two levels for this unit: 1 and 2).
Leg. Hair. Stick deleted (I'm still thinking how to do it). Dress modified (the lower part of the last version didn't make sense). Some shadows and lights added.
See ya!

Re: Perseo's tryes (Can this portrait be painted?)
It's better. Only arms have problem.
Re: Perseo's tryes (Can this portrait be painted?)
Well, I've been practising with GIMP and more important, I've been learning how to paint with a normal brush and acrilic paints, now I think I understand my error: painting with gimp is not a matter of using the bucket and the burn tool but the art of choosing the right colors and use tools like the brush and the aerograph. Since I understood that I wanted to make a try and this is what I've obtained. It's somekind of demi-lion, or at least is intended to be a lion with some human traits. It's only the head coz I it's enough for my first time.
The draft I use was a comic-strip I've recently made so the face shape is not realistic however I want you to tell me everything you can see.
Let see what can you tell me about it: The draft: See ya!

Re: Perseo's tryes (Mad demi-lion portrait!!)
So here is my last unit attempt: ¡The crabby man! He's supposed to be like a centaur but instead of being a demi-horse he's a demi-crab:

Re: Perseo's tryes (the crabby man project)
Well, after a long time without posting here, I'm back at trying to do my own wesnoth campaign, so I restarted with the portraits, I've been doing some random stuff and practising drawing, I took the scaner last weekend and that's what I've done:

Re: Perseo's tryes (kind of a knight)
That's quite good. I like the way the cape hangs over half his body, and the shine on the metal is fairly convincing while still being cool. I'm not too keen on what's going on with the plume though...
Re: Perseo's tryes (kind of a knight)
Ya... I agree with you, I'm not happy with the plume or the left sleeve, I'l probably do something with them since they're separate capes... I'll post the results on monday I guess

Re: Perseo's tryes (kind of a knight)
Two new portraits attemps, I think I'm using them in my campaign (I'm rewriting it). Both of them are for new units whose sprites I'm doing. A courier and a sword warrior who bears a massive sword.

They are not bad. they kinda remind me of the old style portraits.

Well, I'm back here with some sprites I did. I really like the second one actually, not so happy with the first level and the third one, anyway here they are:
