Re: Wesnoth 1.8.6 anc Mac OS X Lion

Post by Alarantalara »

The release of 1.9.13 will probably be announced later today.

For 1.8.6, the library should fix the crash in full screen, but it will instead crash in windowed mode. 1.8.6 will not be updated to correct this problem.

and if I'm not mistaken, those changes will be rolled into the stable 1.10 release once it's ready (given that 1.9.x are the "betas" of 1.10). The 1.10 release is what you would want to wait for if you want the smoothest Wesnoth experience.

Thanks the problem is fixed now. Performance has significantly decreased though, but I suspect that will be fixed when the stable 1.10 release is ready.

Performance was even worse for a while, but yes, it still needs improvement.

Also, you should find that there are no performance problems in full screen mode.

Edit: I just took a look at the SDL source, and the statement about performance is probably not true in Lion. Oh well. Rest assured, I'm still looking into this.

Edit 2: Can someone with Lion replace SDL.framework in the application with the one attached here? I want to know if the colours are correct. As a bonus, it should also improve performance significantly, so if it appears okay, I'll reupload the whole package for everyone who hasn't got it yet.

Edit 3: Removed framework in favour of new one.

Yeah scrolling around the map and moving characters is a little slower than usual in the new version, but everything else works smoothly! I tried the newer framework and performance is much better, but the colors are all funky.

I'll see if i can get them flipped around so they're correct. I'll need a screenshot so I know which colour went where.
Also, I need to know if the colours are strange in both fullscreen and windowed mode, or just one of them.

Attached is a screenshot. The colors are only backwards in fullscreen mode.

Okay then, let's try this one. Since Lion acts very differently than I expected, I'm still not sure the colours will be right.

I installed the framework into the 1.9.13 build and mousing around on the start screen in windowed mode is much slower than in full screen mode.

The MP area worked fine in both modes, as did the actual playing.

For a friend of mine, 1.9.13 on Lion was very slow in windowed mode, both without the custom SDL and with custom SDL framework installed.

The custom framework fixed 1.9.13 for me on Lion. The cursor ghosting is gone, the menus are faster (not always fluid, but definitely improved), and the in-game animations work again. Thank you.
I will now resume lurking silently.

Good day!

I have a question and I decided to use the existing topic.

Are there any plans to make full-screen mode be a native Lion full-screen mode? That allows switching between several full-screen apps?
