Hi,

I've just downloaded Battle for Wesnoth today and I'm loving it, coming to the forums showed me that it is way more than a game,

Thanks to all the developers and to all the contributers for this awesome game.

Well hello there, nergal. I'm just being curious if you are a fan of Behemoth or if you just like ancient demonology :)
Oh, I'm sorry, did I break your concentration?

Well, I do like ancient things, and myhtology, not particularly demonology, it happens that I play a trading card and a role playin game that is based in vampires and heavily in ancient mithology, one of that vampires ( that I like a lott because is cool) is Nergal, which is also an ancient god. And I like the name.

I hope I'm not breaking any forum rule here, I think the name is not owned. If I am I'll change it.

You're fine. Mythology is public domain, and the name "Nergal" predates any trading card games or roleplaying games by a substantial margin

Hey my name is valvinar (as seen in the side :P). Some guys on kongregate said this was a great tbs and I have to agree. It is an excellent blend of fire emblem and advance wars( not exactly but its a general idea to tell people.) I love this game and have already made my friend get it. I'm hoping to be able to contribute to it soon...ish....when i know more programming :)

I'm Damian, a.k.a. cyningstan in various places. I've been into computer strategy games for at least twenty years. My preference is stuck in the early to mid nineties as far as computer games go: until I installed The Battle for Wesnoth last week I'd been playing the likes of Battle Isle 2 and Warlords. Wesnoth is an excellent up-to-date incarnation of the kind of games I like. I especially love the music: better than almost anything I've heard in a computer game!

I'm monokli, longtime fan of turn based strategy games such as UFO and HMM 1-3.

I have come to know this game from the diehard core of the Dungeon Siege community: #siegetheday. Originally mistaken the characters as animesque, but later I have found out how much I was mistaken. Since then I'm playing this game almost non-stop.

With a jailbroken Iphone and a proper file-manager (ifile) I can even edit scenario config files I make for maps I make on my main computer.

Hi everyone, I'm Chris.
I've had Wesnoth installed for a year now, playing it on and off. I thought that I should get involved with the community and try my hand at creating my own content.
I love the feel of the game, and especially the brilliant music.

Hi, my name is Carl.

I don't really play computer games, so I don't think wesnoth is for me, however the work that has been put into it is astounding and everyone should be proud to be involved in this community.

I do play table top games, and actually found your site because from opengameart and wtactics, I noticed some of the art from wtactics is art from here.

I would like to use some of the portrait art on here for my table top gaming, just to represent characters for my own personal games, never to be sold, or distributed, I would just print them out and use them for character sheets so people would have a visual.

I just want to make sure that wouldn't upset anyone, while I don't think I am doing anything wrong by doing it, I certainly want to respect an artists work.

Hi! Actually, Wesnoth is released under the GPL, meaning that you can use, distribute, or even sell anything in the game! So you can use anything in the game (Code, images, music) for anything you want.

Awesome, so how would I go about getting the portrait art?

First, there's a few threads and wiki pages for art dumps, where artists post all of their work. If you do a quick look around the art contributions and workshop forums, you'll probably find some.

Otherwise, you can download the game, and then go into the game's files. If you're using Windows, it's at:

C:\Program Files\Whatever your wesnoth folder is called\data\core\images\portraits

Note that whatever version you're playing might not contain all of the portraits, as art does tend to hang around the forums for a while before being packaged into a release.

That's not correct.
Whatever you do with a GPL'ed program / with GPL'ed content, must also be released under the GPL.
