Working on some color swaps
I'm working on some color swaps for a custom era. I've only come up with a few. Like my icon. Does anybody have any interesting ones that they would like to post for some inspiration?

This forum (Art Contributions), is for art for the core game content. Not for add-ons and such. I'm moving this thread to the Art Workshop where it belongs.

You do realize that the magenta palette is there for a reference so that the game can swap it into some other color, so that the player can better recognize which unit belongs into which team. This is called Team Color or TC.Great_Mage_Atari wrote:I'm working on some color swaps for a custom era. I've only come up with a few. Like my icon. Why would anyone want to swap TC into a static one? Especially in an era??

If, per say, I want an elf with a red headband but black armor. Get it?SFault wrote:You do realize that the magenta palette is there for a reference so that the game can swap it into some other color, so that the player can better recognize which unit belongs into which team. Re: Working on some color swaps
Thing is, you're not just changing a little bit of the TC area, you're changing all of it. Changing just the headband is detrimental to the unit (since it reduces the overall area of TC, which makes it harder for the player to tell which side the unit is on), but not too drastically so. Changing all the TC makes it much harder to recognize what side the unit is on, and bright, prominent static colors further aggravate the issue.
There's nothing wrong with doing some recoloring, but if you want to use the sprites in an era, or even on multiple sides in a SP campaign, I'd strongly advise leaving the TC alone and recoloring only the other bits of the sprite instead.

Re: Working on some color swaps
I don't believe versions of the modern sprites exist without TC. The most recent TC-less mainline sprites are from a long long time ago; TC has been around for substantially longer than most of our new sprites. Offhand, I can think of a few old elves that used not to have TC but that's about it.
Why do you need a sprite without TC? TC's not a magical palette, you can recolor it like any other. Just take care not to recolor the whole thing is all.

Re: Working on some color swaps
The problem is that when I search through my computer for wesnoth files that contain characters, only the characters from add-ons show up. Am I searching in the wrong place?

Wesnoth folder > Data > Core > Images > Units > Choose the race you want.
