Wesnoth Miniatures

Post by KaKiLa »

Hi all,
So far this is the pre-final list. Let me know what you think. I discarded the Dwarvish Thunderer because you can get plenty of them from Warhammer miniatures http://s14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/ ... ves006.jpg
However, if there is a Dwarf that looks characteristic of Wesnoth I will be glad to add it.

Let me know what you think

Thanks
OLD POST
Hi all,
A few days ago, chatting in the Wesnoth IRC channel VurtualRuler gave me a nice idea: wouldn't it be super cool if there were Wesnoth miniatures?

Once long ago, I asked an artist friend, Fabian Carbonell, to create from a couple of images I got form the web, a full-fledged Pegasus sculpture. After a month or so, he came back with the most impressive "wooden" Pegasus I had ever seen. Yesterday, I asked again about doing some miniatures for Wesnoth and he is interested.

Now, Fabian needs visual food so he can imagine the miniatures. I would like to invite you to send me your suggestion about:

1. Which characters of Wesnoth deserve a miniature?
2. The best images of the characters to help Fabian making something Wesnothisch

List of suggested units [*] Mudcrawler - by Gambit http://forums.wesnoth.org/download/file.php?id=44645 [/*]
Links to art-work:
[*] Elvish Shaman - by shadowmaster http://units.wesnoth.org/trunk/C/Elvish%20Shaman.html[/*]
[*] by thespaceinvader [/*] [*] Drake Blademaster - by Vranca http://units.wesnoth.org/trunk/C/Drake% ... aster.html[/list]

Thanks

I'd like to see him make a wooden draug xD

but uhh..yeah it would be cool to have miniatures, but unless you're getting them just for your own and your friends amusement then how does that go with the open-source non-commercial spirit of the whole wesnoth project?
though seeing Jetrels commision i can imagine that

Hi, posting some answers I gave in the IRC:

I will pay the first ones and then give away pictures, the address of the artist, if I can I will do a 3D scan of it, molds, etc... to share.

It is just starting, we will see how good they are. We can always (provided the artist has time) ask for more. Eventually someone will come up with something more industrialized and then.. kaboom! the magic of open-source community.

Also we can use this original ones as patterns for some Chinese factory and do more! Maybe somebody will do and STL (or other 3D format http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/3ds ... war/255133) of the miniatures and then we could use 3D printers as well...you know, everything is possible

Besides, once you have one miniature, you can always make a mold with polymorph or whatever and then cast more similar ones.

Keep sending visual material!

Nowhere do we say that we aren't allowed to sell Wesnoth-related content, and in fact, that's been done in the past (iOS port notwithstanding).

The pose is bad for both a reference and a wooden model (in my opinion). I'd go for either one frame of the new spearman-se attack animation or the base frame.

Ok, could you provide the location of the new attack animation? I can't find it easily in the tree of the 1.8 version. Also, you may want to provide some links to art-work, I do not think Fabian will be able to get a good idea only form the 35x35 pixel tiles.

Hi, I do love dragons too!! Nevertheless, they are everywhere(though the unit looks super cool). For a first set of miniatures, I would go for something more "folkloric", maybe some main characters (I am also thinking of using the miniatures for story art, dragons I can get easily)

I am very sorry for my answer, no offense.
