Re: Campaign art - Descent into Darkness
In young Malin, it's, let's say normal size.tr0ll wrote:could be the background colours but to my eye the torc thing around his neck shrinks as he gets older.
In old Malin, it's probably the same size, but because of perspective it's 'thinner'. (seen from a 45deg. angle)
With Malin the lich...yeaah. Smaller.
That aside, great work as always LordBob! I must say though, I don't understand why Malin keeps that old book of his. Is it on necromancy rather than normal magic? Or something else? Maybe it's close to his heart for some reason? Also, if he does keep that old book of his, I would imagine it would have lots of imperfections, chinks in the gold and tears in the leather and the such.

It is great to see you so productive. I really liked your old shading style a lot. I do like your attitude of changing your work, when you feel it is needed. So if that zebra shadeing technique safes your time or nerves or anything, please keep it up. Great lineart. Can't wait to see it finished.

Re: Campaign art - Descent into Darkness
I'd consider adding some more thickness to the left (upper) arm. Other than that can't see anything to correct, awaiting the shadings anxiously.

Re: Campaign art - Descent into Darkness
I do not like the beard the older Malib gets- I actually prefer the weay he changed in the current portrait, looking like a teenager worn out by the Dark Arts. And why does he retain the hair but not the beard as a lich?
After far too long an absence, I have returned.

Because he doesn't retain any skin in the chin region, whereas part of his scalp remains attached to his skull in his unlife... Or because I like it this way.
Annyway, the beard's not a given : I had picked it with the thought that several years would pass between the two portraits, which isn't the case. I'll see how it turns out, might be a thin moustache, or just some duvet in the end.
In the meantime, Drogan's done.

Re: Campaign art - Descent into Darkness
Everything's looking pretty good to me. However, as StDrake did, I'd suggest making Dela's arms less skinny; currently they're certainly within realistic bounds for a gal with untrained arms, but I'd think Dela should have gotten a fair bit of exercise already.
Re: Campaign art - Descent into Darkness
hmm.. is it just me or does Darken Volk look more like a traveling merchant than a necromancer?
Re: Campaign art - Descent into Darkness
Weather or not he looks like a merchant doesn't really matter, just as long as he looks creepy. And that he does.

Re: Campaign art - Descent into Darkness
Is Drogan's arm meant to be gigantic, or is that a fault?

Re: Campaign art - Descent into Darkness
I believe it's padding. The length looks right, and considering what he's wearing, the thickness does too.

Re: Campaign art - Descent into Darkness
But to you does it look correct compared to his other arm?

Awesome linework Lordbob. I love your attention to detail.
It's called perspective.JackBarber wrote:But to you does it look correct compared to his other arm?

Re: Campaign art - Descent into Darkness
Just a quick thumbs up for your great work. The detail and crispiness of your linework always amazes me!
On another note, I don't see anything wrong with Drogan portrait - the way arms are positioned and scaled actually gives a nice depth to the figure.
